As recently reported, the Australian release of Amen. contains the live piano version of the song, which is closest to what you heard in concert. Otherwise, that's it. There have been a couple of bootlegs (Diffidence, for example) that have contained live versions of the song, but they are long since out of print and probably impossible to lay your hands on. Personally, I've always liked the Harbinger version of Ordinary and never found it to be even remotely bebop. I suppose, though, if the first version you ever heard was the live version, you might find the faster tempo of the album version distracting. >>> 2. She was definitely busy getting the new album completed, but there is also what appears to be an effort on Paula's part to set herself apart from the rest of the Lilith pack. Not a bad idea, if you ask me or a few others on the list. That Lilith thing was a great jumping off point for Paula, but don't look for too many of those songbirds to acccomplish what Paula has done and likely will do in the future. Just think of all those grunge bands from your neck of the woods who are now flipping burgers. >> 3. More about her 2000 tour for Amen: does anybody know if the >> Northwest might be on her route? No dates have been announced for the tour, but she generally does make it up that way. The touring she has done in the past few weeks has only been industry/promotional stuff. Nothing to get too hot and sweaty about yet. Just like previews for Broadway. The tour is slated to begin in February. >>> PS to Kenn, I accompanied my daughter to a Tori Amos concert a >>> couple of weeks ago, and the guy next to me kept singing through the >>> whole concert. Slower, acoustic - just guitar and drums, I think. Similar to the version on Diffidence that came from The Difference radio show. That one will probably always be my favorite rendition of "Ordinary." Anyway, the other CD I'm thinking of is called Live From The Music Hall -Vol. 1 and it was put out by a radio station called KSCA FM 101.9 back in 1995. It's still going to be very hard to find and expensive when you do find it, but it's out there (unlike the bootlegs, like Diffidence and Road To Baden Baden, which only had a limited pressing). I've seen this one sell for $60+ on internet auctions. Might be better to shell out the $25-$30 for the Australian release of Amen if you're looking for almost-instant gratification. Good luck! Peace. Reported track listing: 1. I Believe In Love (string version) 2. I Believe In Love (guitar version) 3. Night The U.S. 7-inch vinyl single is also scheduled to be released soon. That will contain the string version of "IBIL" with "Night" as the flip. Oh, by the way... I wrote to the fan club yesterday to find out how they came into existence. I didn't ever recall hearing of any frequent posters to the list named Melissa, so I figured the club wasn't being run by a fan. Turns out that's the case. The Paula Cole fan club is being operated by a company whose sole reason for existence is to host fan clubs for a large number of musicians/singers/actors, etc. Warner Bros. hired them to do this job. A few of the company's employees also happen to be self-reported fans of Paula's, but I'm wondering how many of them have actually ever even seen her live. I'm mentioning this because the news coming from the fan club seems to be a day late and a dollar short with regard to news. With the exception of concert information, their information is always several days behind what comes out on Harbinger. In fact, it appears that they are getting at least some of their information from people who sub to Harbinger. I know the Finlandian Firestarter has kindly offered a couple of items to them. Fairly pitiful that we have already discovered the news before the Paula camp gets around to dispensing it. I hope they're planning on doing more than this. It'd be in Paula's best interest to take a good look at what Sarah McLachlan's fan club, Murmurs, has done and talk to WB about doing something similar. Nettwerk has assigned members of its own staff to work on her newsletter, etc. They even manage to turn out a maxi-CD once a year (although it's usually late these days) which is only available to fan club subscribers. It doesn't appear that Paula's fan club will ever be going out as a hard copy. Pinching pennies, I suppose. Sad thing is... you only get what you pay for. Peace.
