My name is Kathy and I live in Oregon. Anybody else from the Northwest? I became aware of and almost immediately obsessed with Paula's music last August at the Lilith Fair in Park City, Utah. My daughter and I were on a two-week primitive camping/hiking odyssey, and happened upon the Park City Lilith. We sat on the ski slope in an incredible deluge as we awaited the concert's beginning... We were drenched and starving by the time Paula came up to sing. Ignorant of Paula's music, my daughter and I intended to use her performance time for our much-needed food and potty break. We got up from our rears to depart, but through two songs (Tiger & Throwing Stones) never got further than a crouch. And then we stood up, but only because we had to move along with her! God, we were totally mesmerized from the second she came onstage. She totally blew us both away. Truly, one of the most unexpected musical thrills I've ever experienced. The next day we bought This Fire (interestingly, the version we bought in Utah was censored -- no "motherfucker" in "Throwing Stones") and played it repeatedly our whole trip. Word by word, we pieced together all the lyrics, and rode the emotional rollercoaster all along the back country of Utah and New Mexico. When I got home to Oregon, I immediately bought Harbinger. And I searched to learn that the only Northwest performance slated was for her to open for Matchbox 20. We bought tickets, but it broke my heart to be amidst a sell-out crowd that was not there to see HER. I couldn't believe she wasn't converting the bozo audience, and I vowed to only see her again when the audience is there for her. So, I'm thrilled she's out on a tour where she's the headliner! So, I'm sorry if you've already covered all this territory, but I have three questions. 1. Is anyone aware of a mix of "Ordinary" available anywhere other than the version on Harbinger? Her live performance is so sensual and heartbreaking. The beeboppy Harbinger mix just doesn't do it justice. 2. Does anybody know why she didn't tour with Lilith Fair this year? I went to both one of the opening shows in Washington and the closing Lilith in Edmonton... but no Paula. Politics or because she was cutting Amen? 3. More about her 2000 tour for Amen: does anybody know if the Northwest might be on her route? Thanks! PS to Kenn, I accompanied my daughter to a Tori Amos concert a couple of weeks ago, and the guy next to me kept singing through the whole concert. I wanted to smack him, because he couldn't sing and he was so close. Like having an annoying fly in your face. Totally bad theater etiquette! Totally lame, I don't care what your enthusiasm level, if not everybody else is singing along too! I agree that it's time to do some audience education.
