That's probably why I don't like rap. I don't like hearing 'nigger' in my music, either. >> I think that it really depends upon what the writer's purpose is in using any words. You can be far more offensive in things that are described or stated without using "offensive" terms. Or you can be using these "derogatory" terms in a way that is perhaps satirical or sarcastic, while trying to make a beneficial point. I think that it all comes down to meaning, and not one's specific choice of the particular words. Lending support to this point, you chose to use the very words that you are offended by within your own message. You did not mean them in a negative manner, and you were merely illustrating a point -- therefore, you decided it was OK....even after saying that simply hearing these words in your music offends you. Anyhow, I have not heard the disc yet, but I totally understand the point. Paula's lyrics have always had some depth and there is something that everybody can identify with in some way -- there is something you could feel out of her songs. The one which has always emotionally grabbed me is Bethlehem. And while, some of those lyrics have been questioned or censored by those who think that they are objectionable words, it is those very parts of the song which so effectively convey emotion or passion. So, as you can guess, I am very anti-censorship of any form. Just my rambling thoughts.... Mike BTW, I will also be at the NYC show. It seems like there will be a lot of us there...that puts an interesting spin on things, being it is such a small place (admits about 500.) I'll be the good-looking one -- damn, I forgot, that would be Kenn! - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time.
