My husband and I had a free day and decided to drive up to check out Rockport. We walked all over the place and saw nothing but your picturesque, classical New England seaside town. We did however, visit a *wonderful* strudel shop near the water... We were told by the young strudel server that Paula had actually worked there, dishing strudel, for a short time while in high school. I don't know if it's true or not, but if you make it to Rockport, I'd **highly** recommend the strudel... Good coffee too! ~Holly (not Hol.... we had this discussion about the multiple Hollys that sub to this NG about a year ago.... ;)) - ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve Bornstein To: Sent: Thursday, September 16, 1999 1:35 PM Subject: Re: (harbinger) Paula "Ebonics" Cole > Oh man I am still chuckling... Yeah, that discussion re too many Holly's and Steve's led to me going with JourneyBear, which is a whole 'nother story that involves Key West, Ani DiFranco, and Falcon Ridge, in about that order - but that is a whole 'nother story . . . Does Ebonics count as a language on a resume? ;) And here's a tip for those of us who can't make it to Rockport to taste the strudel in person-- the movie "The Love Letter" (Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Selleck...) was filmed in Rockport according to a friend of mine in Boston... so if you want to see some of Rockport, see the movie (I haven't yet- I thought it was on video, but couldn't find it at Blockbuster). (My apologies if this has already been mentioned). We are planning a trip to NYC to see Paula at The Bowery Ballroom-- is there any possibility of a Harbinger get together since so many of us seem to be going? We are flying in from Detroit that morning, staying up/out all night and flying back the next morning. I know New York is the city that never sleeps, and even though it's not my first time there, are there any suggestions as to what we can do to pass time between after the show and 5am? Mostly because Mary Lou Lord doesn't play this particular neck of the woods all that often, AND IT'S FREE!!! She goes on around 7:00 - I think the whole thing starts around 4:00. I imagine it'll move inside the club if it rains. Also, this innovative club/performing space/gallery is closing after trying to make a difference for a few years, so it would be nice to end on a positive note. There's a little something for everybody here. BTW, TAZ stands for Temporary Autonomous Zone. It's three floors (ok they're small) devoted to arts of all kinds Peace JourneyBear here is the information on the final two T Subject: (harbinger) Paula on T.V. Both have no cover and tend to have 4-5 acts in one night, though I think they don't run much later than midnight. Websites are http://www.livingroomny.com and http://www.arlene-grocery.com Also right there is Baby Jupiter but I don't know the url. There are a few other clubs right near there too, notably The Mercury Lounge, and walking around there is pretty interesting in itself. The block of Houston that they're behind has seven or eight restaurants from as many cuisines - a real culinary melting pot - including world-famous Katz' Deli, where the abuse is free.
