Majors have a hard time letting their artists do anything that doesn't bring them income somehow. Remember how Tom Pety's label pulled his mp3 file after two days? Surprised they let it run that long. Oh well, dreams are free. [many of those young girls probably haven't listened much past the first track either!!] it's also hard for me to hear that some people have "absolutely zero respect for an artist that doesn't write their own song and/or play their own music". not everyone is can play an instrument. and not everyone can sing. celine dion, whitney houston, bette midler, and ever garth brooks- these are all VERY talented singers [and musicians], who often or never write their own songs. now how much each person likes these singers can be debated, but it can't be debated that they all have tremendous talent. and you know- it's strange to me that it isn't okay for singers to not write their own songs or not play their own instruments, but it is okay for the people that only play these instruments to not sing? hmm. what it all boils down to for me is that everyone with talent was given it differently. just as we don't like music that is all the same, that is played over and over and is considered 'sell out', not all musicians can be the same. some will have huge hits- some will remain forever underground. some will write all of their songs, sing all of the vocals, and play all of the instruments on their album- some will just sing the melodies. give all music a chance as that is the only way that we can keep music alive. i believe it is the lack of people giving music a chance that led us to where we are today- in a world of clones and corporate comebacks that have lost the goal of making great music, and are instead aiming at america's wallets. we should keep our minds [or rather ears] open and remember that it is all about the music, what we like and what makes us feel good. - -preston ...as far as paula is concerned, if you haven't yet heard ' i believe in love ' you had better download it today. it's great. cdnow.com. - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Btw, if you are an AOL subscriber the above instruction will work for your EVERY time. I just got a promo copy of IBIL featuring the guitar version. It leaves out a few lines from the second verse, so with that information and knowing the guitar version is the one being played on the airwaves, I'm assuming the guitar version is a radio edit and the string version is the album version. Aside from the long lead-in and the missing string section, they're really not that different. Peace.
