I hope Phil does come back. He truly is one of the nicest guys I've ever met in the music business, which is shot full with ego-trippers and self-serving climbers. Whenever I saw him he always took the time to chat a little or kindly explain that he was a little busy at the moment. His decision to take some time off to deal with his personal life was just that - his decision - and had nothing to do with his professional status. When I asked Jay about him back in March he wasn't in the picture, but I'm sure the door is open for him should he want to return. When I went into NY Friday to catch Donna DeLory and Bliss at The Bottom Line, Jay was playing with them. I said Hi afterward but couldn't fit Phil into the conversation. Sorry, I'm not much of an investigative reporter. Too much respect for other peoples' privacy, not enough of a gossip, or something. I'll try to find out more next time I see them, but no promises. I do know that Donna would love to get the opening slot for Paula's tour, and I'm sure Jay would too. The tour would probably turn into a big love fest. But that's beside the point - there's a lot of correlation between Donna's and Paula's music, and they would be a good match.
