This is how we learn. I wasn't gonna post this, but since you did . . . Jess Klein IS an extraordinarily talented singer/songwriter with a captivating voice and well-crafted repertoire. She may well be going places. I am definitely planning on making the 80-mile drive on a weeknight to be there. I would go even if she were solo, but with a band (esp. this band) there's no question. It's only six bucks, dear hearts, so if you live anywhere nearby you should really try to get there. Peter Mulvey is no slouch either, perhaps the only person I've heard even approximate Patty Larkin's wizardry on open-tuned guitar. Here's more info: ************************************* THE BIG MAY SHOW First time headlining this great room JESS KLEIN w/ Band & PETER MULVEY Thurs. 5/13 7pm THE IRON HORSE, NORTHAMPTON MA Split bill with the amazing PETER MULVEY. Northampton debut for Jess' band featuring Austin Nevins on guitar with Doug Plavin on drums and Richard Gates on bass (both of the Dar Williams Band) call 1-800-THE-TICK. Please get ADVANCE TICKETS this may sell out. Please come and bring lots of friends. Road trip from Boston, NYC ? Leave work early. ************************************* Jess' debut album "Wishes Well Disguised" made my Best of 1998 list, and she also got a special mention as Newcomer Of The Year. She's been around for a while but I learned about her just last year. As to Falcon Ridge - this is a very nice, user-friendly folk festival fourth weekend of July, with an emphasis on singer/songwriters. Not going to list everybody - go to http://www.falconridgefolk.com for that - but I will say this - you will probably never get closer to Ani DiFranco than here (if that's your thang). The workshops tend to be even more of an attraction than the mainstage sets, as there is a lot of spontaneous combustion there. This is way off-topic so if anyone needs more info e me privately.
