Paula Cole - The Board Game!!! I was just over at Amazon.com looking around and found out that Sarah McLachlan has a recipe book on the shelves. Here is a little blurb about the book, entitled "Plenty: A Collection of Sarah McLachlan's Favourite Recipes": **** Ravenous Sarah McLachlan fans will be happily sated by this sophisticated cookbook- cum-fan letter. With Plenty: A Collection of Sarah McLachlan's Favourite Recipes, the Canadian musician reveals the inventive ways she copes with touring hardships: by taking refuge in Full of Grace Soufflé, Sweet Surrender Lobster, and Grandma's Upside-Down Apple Tart, to name just a few.**** OK, aside from the annoyingly precious names for these dishes, why does this bother me? It's the same feeling I got when Anne Rice started focusing more and more on marketing her name and reputation than on writing good books. Why should I want a bottle of Lestat wine or a t-shirt bearing an image of Anne's brain? Here's an idea... how about putting out a decent book instead of concerning yourself with plugging more Anne Rice merchandise? I fully acknowledge that, unlike Rice, Sarah Mc is still doing good work, but still.... can't she just stick to singing and leave the salad dressing and exercise videos to Paul Newman and Suzanne Sommers? This seems to be one short step away from having your own action figure or... ... INFORMERCIAL!!! :^O If there is any goodness left in this world, I really hope that I never see Paula's face on the front of a coffeetable book about gardening or yoga. I don't want her to make a career move that would involve her own line of vegetarian, nitrate-free Rocky Road To Dead ice cream. No Paula Cole jewelry. Please? Peace. Paula Cole - The Board Game!!! Whew, let me catch my breath from laughing so hard. I can see a whole hilarious thread coming, as well it should. But first - I'm sure everyone knows Sarah has said she's planning to take some time off after this year's Lilith for her personal life. Whether that means to start a family or write cookbooks is anyone's guess. As far as I'm concerned she has produced some of the decade's best and most enduring music, so she need not do anything more in this field. She is already clearly a finalist for my Artist Of The Decade (truly a big whup award if there ever was one, but even so . . .). So if she wants to leave the public eye for a while she has left us with a thrilling body of work and the legacy of Lilith - which hopefully will live on without her, even under a different name. Of course I'd welcome more from her, but she must follow her muse. That said, how about a product line featuring "Into The Fire" Hot Sauce "Angel" Hair Pasta "Black" Berry Pie and last (and surely least) "Ice" Cream, or "Ice Cream" Ice Cream If she wants to break into the lucrative candy market she could pitch the makers of "Good and Plenty" to change its name to "Plenty and Good Enough." Having trouble fitting Paula's songs to products (not necessarily a bad thing) though she could try "Hush, Hush, Hush" earplugs.
