There has been zero info at the WBOS site, but e-mailing them proved fruitful. Sorry, no return appearance by Paula, but some interesting choices. SIXTH ANNUAL WBOS EARTHFEST ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENTS! Saturday, April 24th ~ 11:00 AM - 6:30 PM MDC Hatch Shell WBOS 92.9 FM is excited to announce that The Sixth Annual WBOS EarthFest presented by Omnipoint, is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 at the MDC Hatch Shell, on the Boston Esplanade alongside the Charles River, from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM. BRUCE HORNSBY, SUSAN TEDESCHI, MELISSA FERRICK, INDIGENOUS, DUNCAN SHEIK, and THE SPIN DOCTORS are scheduled to perform. More artists will be announced shortly! The WBOS EarthFest, which annually draws more than 125,000 fans for a full day of music, food, environmental awareness and rockin' good fun is the largest event of its kind in the Northeast. In addition to great live music, approximately 100 environmental groups and exhibitors will showcase their organizations and wares on site. And, best of all, this event is free! WBOS is the only radio station in the greater Boston area that maintains an active, ongoing environmental profile. The station has helped clean up the Charles River, supported and produced large scale fundraisers for the New England Aquarium, supported fundraisers for the Walden Woods Project and the Environmental League of Massachusetts, spotlighted the effort to Save The Harbor/Save The Bay, supported the efforts of City Year and kept an on-air profile of being involved environmentally through various public service campaigns. (Yeah, I know - yatta yatta yatta - OK, just wanted to include the environmental stuff as well as the musical) Speaking of which, here are two really good artists you may not have heard of but should have. They're on my Best of 1999 list, and Melissa also was my pick for solo performer of the year. Try to take the hype with a grain of salt - this is from a press release. What Are Records Recording Artist Melissa Ferrick recently released Everything I Need, the followup to the critically acclaimed Melissa Ferrick + 1, stellar appearances with the Lilith Fest Tour, and rave reviews for her fiery live performances. The folk-rock Salem native has also toured nationally with artists such as Bob Dylan, Kristin Hersh, John Hiatt, Dwight Yoakam, Del Amitri, Lisa Germano and many others. Tone Cool Recording Artist Susan Tedeschi has a gritty, rockin' hot voice that's frequently compared with Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt and Etta James, and a guitar style influenced by Johnny Guitar Watson, Magic Sam and Freddie King. With the release of her national debut CD, Just Won't Burn, Susan's profile has grown--the Norwell native's now had atop 14 Triple A radio hit with "It Hurt So Bad," and has toured with Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, B.B. King, Dr. John and Delbert McClinton. She's also graced the covers of Pollstar and Blues Revue magazines and registered one of the top selling albums in the country. Susan's from-the-heart vocals and stinging guitar work combined with her charismatic stage presence and electrifying live performances, have caused listeners and critics nationwide to take notice.
