As far as Mercury Records go, they're quite possibly one of the worst record companies. Several of my favorite artists have received nothing but poor promotion from them (i.e. the Wilsons, Lauren Christy). They seem only interested in the bands that sell big records (i.e. Jon Bon Jovi). And while that is fine and dandy (I have nothing against Mr. Jovi), I feel that Mercury is extremely poor as far as record companies go. I believe that if you sign an artist, you try your best to make sure that people are aware of their music. Whether it be sponsoring a tour, posters, etc. Mercury does a bad job at this, to say the least. In Joan Osborne's case, I'm uncertain... but the idea about having creative differences doesn't seem far-fetched. Sophie B. Hawkins (although not with Mercury - thank god) is having similar problems releasing her third album all because her record company doesn't like some of the instrumentation Sophie has chosen to use to record. I feel like record execs have WAY too much input and control over the artists' creative freedom. Anyway, I doubt I made much of any kind of sense with this post. Sorry, people. :-) Sometimes, ROBBIE ps.) To all those still waiting for my Like The Winter (Paula site), I do have plans on bringing it back... it's just taking awhile. > > also, this has been of topic on the joan osborne list, and i figure some of > you guys might know about this sort of thing. according to some article or > another (i can't remember which) the reason that joan's album isn't coming > out is because of creative differences with mercury. anybody know what > mercury's problem is? - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger That's the way to unsub even for poor, benighted AOL users.
