I wanted to see them Sunday in New York but just couldn't. They won't be coming my way again till April. For those who already know how wonderful Dar is (I've been a fan since I first saw her in '95) this tour is a must-see. For those who don't, you owe it to yourself to broaden your horizons. The CD is a little too pat, too predictable, but they have chosen some very good songs. I'll bet they are better live, where the interaction can lead them into the unexpected. Along those lines, our Canadian members have a rare treat coming their way. Erin Corday, an extraordinarily gifted singer/songwriter from Washington (state) is doing a brief tour of Ontario. She doesn't get east much, and is well worth hearing whenever possible. She incorporates Brazilian rhythms into her music, without any hint of phoniness. She has that rare ability to move a roomful of people with just her voice, which I've really only seen Martin Sexton do. I can only imagine what Paula solo would be like. Download the attachment for show info. But back to Paula - or Jay actually. I went into New York last month to see a few shows in one night, mostly for Bliss, a duo from LA who had Jay siting in with them on their whirlwind three-date east coast tour. Bliss is Donna DeLory, vocals/harmonium and Cameron Stone, cello/electric cello/harmony vocals. Donna's breathy voice made for an easy comparison to Paula, and Cameron's effects-laden cello gave Jay a lot to play with, so I can see why he would be interested in them. BTW, he is out in LA tonight with them at a gig, being taped for PBS. Here's the item from their website: Tuesday, January 19th at "Luna Park" in West Hollywood, CA at 9:45pm. There is a cover charge of $7 or $5 w/ card. Bliss will be performing in the Cabernet room downstairs. PBS will be taping this show for an upcoming TV show! Lots and Lots of people are needed at Donna's show for the taping!!! Niki Harris will be making a guest appearance!! Paula Cole's drummer, Jay Bellerose, will be playing percussion. The address is 665 N Robertson, Los Angeles, CA. For more information please call 310-652-0611. Ontario, LA, I am all over the map here. Sorry for the cross-posting and off-topic stuff, but there is a lot of good music worth catching while we wait for Paula's next album. This post is quite long enough, but sometime I must tell you all about meeting the good folks at Rainy Day Records, way way down in Key West. At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated: "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty five dollar cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon." In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics: 1) For no reason whatsoever your car would crash twice a day. 2) Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car. 3) occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would just accept this, restart and drive on. 4) Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn, would cause your car to shut down and refuse to start. In which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 5) Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought "Car95" or "CarNT". But then you would have to buy more seats. 6) Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, reliable, five times as fast, and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads. 7) The oil, water, temperature and alternator warning light would be replaced by a single "general car default" warning light. 8) New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt. 9) The airbag system would say "Are you sure?" before going off. 10) occasionally for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 11) GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither need them nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Department 12) Every time GM introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 13) You'd press the "start" button to shut off the engine. - -- Larry - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger That's the way to unsub even for poor, benighted AOL users.
