That's me eating my heart out! I would love to have seen that show, not just for Cry Cry Cry but also the Nields Sisters, acoustically. I've been a big fan and booster of The Nields ever since I first saw them four years ago, just after they went electric. It took two years but I finally saw them acoustically at The Iron Horse Pearl Harbor Day 1996, when a raging thunder-snowstorm killed the power. They (and opener June Rich) continued acoustically, and it was a magical show, one of the best I've ever seen. But your show, a planned acoustic show - well, I am so envious. I will have to wait until April for Cry Cry Cry to come out here (ironically, since they're FROM here), but of course The Nields will be elsewhere then. I've seen Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell share a bill twice (aka The Lucy and Ricky Show) but they performed separately; add Dar Williams and you've got something pretty special. Add K & N Nields and you start to gush just thinking about it. Well, I do anyway. Two Questions - 1) Was it really just Nerissa and Katryna, w/o David? 2) Did they join Cry Cry Cry, for their version of Nerissa's "I Know What Kind Of Love This Is?" Sorry, gang, for veering so far off the topic, but these guys are well worth checking out. They're a bit more pop and upbeat than Paula, but still find ways to make their music multi-layered and meaningful. Last time I checked their website it only had through Jan. or something, which I really hated. The most negotiable one for me was Jan. 4 in Alexandria, VA (I live not too far from WV!) and I have to be back in school then. I would *so* love to see them though. I really consider the album to be a contemporary folk masterpiece. At first I only got it for Dar, but the whole thing just blows my mind. I played the Ballad of Mary Magdalene last week at a Christmas open house thing I had to do. I think it's close enough to a Christmas song. To AngeLieb-thanks so much for all your neat paula stuff! I have it all ready I just have yet to get to a computer w/ net access to put everything up. I'll be sure to let you know when it is! And to anybody who's been to my page...the postcards and quizlet thing are both fixed now. I think the error messages are still up on the index, but everything that's listed up there should work. I have a lot more stuff in the wings so you'll have to sit patiently...this site, to get my shameless plug in here, is at http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stage/5569/paula.html so please visit if you haven't. :) OK, I'm done now...I love hearing from other Dar/CryCryCry fans...Dar, Richard, and Lucy are 3 of the best modern day folk singers and deserve acclaim for it. Even Entertainment Weekly liked their album, and they usually pan even really good albums. It doesn't matter to me what they think, but anybody can recognize a classic. So you know it's a keeper! I will have to wait until April for Cry Cry Cry to come out >here (ironically, since they're FROM here), but of course The Nields >will be elsewhere then. well hey, california never gets anything cool. i think the last time the nields were here was 1 or 2 years ago (before i was enlightened, of course) and while dar gets around, the other two don't as much. >I've seen Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell >share a bill twice (aka The Lucy and Ricky Show) but they performed >separately; add Dar Williams and you've got something pretty special. it was great. lucy, richard, and especially dar are good on their own but put them together, and wow. >Two Questions - >1) Was it really just Nerissa and Katryna, w/o David? yes indeed. it was nerissa on guitar and katryna on voice dancing around the stage and playing a shaker at one point. and they were so great and so nice to me (i was selling the merch) >2) Did they join Cry Cry Cry, for their version of Nerissa's "I Know >What Kind Of Love This Is?" nope, but last night was the first night they'd heard it live so that was cool. >Sorry, gang, for veering so far off the topic, but these guys are well >worth checking out. They're a bit more pop and upbeat than Paula, but >still find ways to make their music multi-layered and meaningful. i must agree, yet again, with steve. the nields are wonderful. check them out. their lyrics are great, the songs are cool, the voices work together, creating a truely unique sound that everyone and their mother must hear at some point in their lives. (and my mother did hear them) and cry cry cry combines 3 really great singers making cool harmonies. i could go on and on but i won't. katie http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~stohlman ps-steve, i'm seeing them again tomorrow night! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger That's the way to unsub even for poor, benighted AOL users.
