She is blessed with an emotionally resonant voice. She has a lot to say and says it well. Her album "Wishes Well Disguised" is a real surprise, a low-budget production that puts most major releases to shame. She will be at the Acoustic Studio at The Rich Forum in Stamford CT this Saturday, with Veda Hille and Lori McKenna (203-375-4466). I also wholeheartedly agree with her comment concerning other talented female singer/songwriters worth checking out. I know it's hard to attain the levels of excellence that Sarah and Paula have, but there are any number of other artists who can most adequately fill the gap between releases by one's favorite artists. Some of the following have been discussed her before, and I am grateful to the list for providing me with what has turned out to be valuable information. I'm glad to return the favor. In no particular order: Heather Nova (everything, esp." Oyster") Karen Savoca (everything) Lucinda Williams (if you can handle "rootsiness") Cheri Knight - ditto - also her old band, The Blood Oranges, if you can find them Patty Larkin (everything, esp. "Tango" and "Angels Running") Erin Corday (everything, esp "Secret About the World") Amy Rigby - "Diary of a Mod Housewife", "Middlescence" Joy Askew (esp. "Tender City") Ani DiFranco (everything) Patti Rothberg - "Between the 1 and the 9" (someday she'll have a new one) Sara Hickman (everything, esp "Misfits") Jill Sobule - "Jill Sobule", "Happy Town" Deni Bonet -two ep's so far The Nields (everything, esp. "Bob On The Ceiling" "Gotta Get Over Greta" and "'Mousse" Margot Smith (Australian, hard to find) Jennifer Kimball - Veering From The Wave Jonatha Brooke (everything, esp. "Plumb" Merrie Amsterburg - Season Of Rain June Rich - quick, before they break up after New Year's Jules Verdone - Diary of a Liar Sinead Lohan (everything) Kim Richey (may be too country for some, but transcends that genre) Lisa McCormick - Right Now Ana Egge - River Under The Road (kind of country, but a wonderful talent) Gillian Welch (ditto) Joy Eden Harrison - Angel Town (into swing, but very good) The Mollys - if you can hanndle a blend of Tex-Mex, Celtic, and psychedelia - one of the most fun live acts out there (everything) I'm sure I'm forgetting some people, but this is not meant to be all-inclusive. Everyone has their favorites, and mine change from day to day. Also, these are not supposed to be replacements for any one else. They all stand on their own. The point I'm making is that there are many artists out there who deserve a second listen, and now is the time to catch them, before they hit it big. Most of them have websites. Peace (and much good music) JourneyBear PS: If you have trouble finding any of these artists let me know- here to help. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger That's the way to unsub even for poor, benighted AOL users.
