You can get a RealAudio player from www.real.com. (There's a free version and a pay-for version - look for the free version.) The setup can be a bit tricky, but if you follow all the directions it generally seems to work (at least it does for the Unix version; I haven't set it up for Windows or Mac). I have had some problems with this particular thing - it is supposed to use the RealAudio plugin so the video displays directly on the web page, but that never worked for me so I had to do a little digging to find the actual URL so I could give it to the player directly. If you get RealAudio installed and get to the Paula concert page (I go through "artist roster" then "paula cole" then "see an event") but don't get the video showing on the right side of the window, I can help you. - -- Stina Bridgeman --- ssb@cs.brown.edu --- http://www.cs.brown.edu/~ssb/ - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "But this...this, this, *this* is like being *nibbled* to death by...what are those Earth creatures called? Wow, I'm surprised that no one mentioned this but there is a guy with the same name as Paula's drummer playing a few tracks on CryCryCry (the Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, and Lucy Kaplansky new supercool album). Since it's not a common name like, say, bob smith, i'm assuming it's the same guy. it's a great album if you like various folk songs covered by great singers. katie http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~stohlman np-crycrycry ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger That's the way to unsub even for poor, benighted AOL users. Indeed. And a 'Jay Belrose' plays on Duncan Sheik's new "Humming" as well...on track 1. I assume it's the same Jay. Makes me wonder... If a cop sees him strolling down the street, does the cop yell "That's Jay walking"....and write a ticket? I hope not, then he'd be a blue Jay and that's a sad bird.... Today I lost my job at McDonald's in Jacksonville,TX cause I chose to stand for something and keep my feet planted in my belief. Today I wore a yellow ribbon on my shirt to work in memory of Matthew Shepard who was a young gay male beaten and left tied to a fencepost to die in Wyoming. A life cut short by violence and ignorance, a life that had potential. I went to work for the first time today since Matthew's death and I wore a yellow ribbon over my heart in memory of him and those who have died of needless violence involing race, sexual orientation or other hate reasons. Mainly the reason today was the death of Matthew, a crime of hate of one's sexual orientation. I was at the store a hour before work, sat at a table, drank a Coke and filled out some medical paperwork for a impending operation. At 11 am I clocked in with my ribbon on my shirt and my gay pride rings on. For those of you who are not aware of my sexual orientation I am bisexual. I did some work in the front of the store and I went into the back window to work my scheduled shift. About 15 minutes into my shift I was approached by my stores owner, Larry Coon and asked why I was wearing a yellow ribbon on my shirt. I told him it was in memory of the slain gay youth from Wyoming- Matthew Shepard. He began to tell me how he supported my wearing the simple yellow ribbon so commonly used for death and peace. Then he proceeded in asking me to remove the ribbon which laid on my heart like a small bandage guarding a wound. I made it clear I was not removing it and he made it clear to me it would not be worn in his store. He asked how I would feel if someone wore a Malcom X ribbon in, I told him that it would not bother me. I took my belt pack and headset off and handed it to him and stated I would leave if my ribbon was a problem and walked away. He told me if I walked out on a shift I was jobless but in my heart I felt it was the best choice I could make. Maybe my choice was brash but someone has to take a stand...I have constructed a small webpage in honor of Matthew ( http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/Stonewall/8807/ )and I would appreciate it if you stopped by and read my prayers to his family and friends, to our society and to the Christian Coalition. Please post comments as to my decision and keep in me in your thoughts as I search for a new job where people care about others and not just how they look. Please feel free to pass this letter on and post it to other email lists... Sincerely MiChelle Smith "...time to let your feelings go..HATRED ONLY KILLS THE SOUL!!!!!!!..." Last year, I wore a black ribbon in memory of Lady Diana and I had no problem with my boss. I think it sucks how we have to judge someone by their race, sexual preference and so forth. In God's eyes, we're all the same right? I've learned that seeing people and treating them as they way the are is the best way to go. The fact that prejudice and discrimination exists sucks! I know this was not easy for you, considering your parental responsibility and financial situation. Maybe you were rash and headstrong, maybe your act will not change anyone's mind (especially your former boss'), maybe this was an unnecessary and futile gesture - but maybe this is just the kind of courageous defiance of blind obeisance to authority that was the foundation of this grand experiment in political and intellectual freedom we call America. This may have the short-term effect of returning you to the daily indignity of jobhunting, but I hope it will free you from the drudgery of working for McDonald's (you surely deserve better than that anyway) and ultimately lead to a better situation for yourself via this path you so boldly chose. People, remember - this freedom and liberty we so often take for granted is a privilege, not a guarantee, and must be earned and fought for, cherished and protected. The majority of people in the world cannot even envision what we casually consider to be our birthright, because it is so unlike what they experience. Whenever an act of senseless brutality occurs, like the tragedy that befell Matthew Shepard, it shows how easy it is for anyone to be a victim of oppression. And when it happens in this country, so proud of its lofty ideals, it should remind us that we are not as highly evolved as we would like to believe. It's going to take action as well as words to bring us to an era of understanding, compassion, acceptance, and peace. Good for you, MiChelle, for taking a stand. Most peole would have bowed to pressure and removed the ribbon, and with it much of their dignity. I applaud your courage and steadfastness. I hope this contributes to making the world a better place for people of all creeds to live in without persecution. And I hope you don't suffer for your beliefs. Is there anyone out there who can give MiChelle a job? She is a good person (with excellent musical taste) who has been scraping along far too long. I think she's shown her heart is in the right place, which should count for a lot more on a resume than simply work experience. Let's use this communication tool for more than just chit-chat. A person's life is at stake here.
