Just a few moments of delurking to give you all some insight as to what you will be seeing popping on the shelves in your local music stores in the next few months. Several sophmoric efforts are coming out but I don't expect them to be anything near the debut albums. I have a peek into some of the new Alanis Morrisette and well it is looking like she may be swallowing a "Jagged A Little Pill" with the new release. The angst that brought her into this world is now somewhat more composed and soft, more like the song 'uninvited'. It looks as if the sound of the angry woman is gone, softer more New Age and Mid-Eastern sounds are coming into play. It is reported that PJ Harvey's new album boasts this New Age sound on her fifth album "Is This Desire" set for release on Sept. 30th. The angelic Jewel will release her sophmoric effort just two weeks after Alanis. The album is currently still untitled but look forward to a fresh new outlook on Jewel...no "Foolish Games" in this effort she is playing a full deck of cards and maybe some more. Soundtracks are gonna be hot this fall and not just for the "Rugrats" on the list. Due out Oct 27th the "Rugrats" CD is coined anything but kids stuff with a line up of adult artists performing including Jakob Dylan, Beck, and No Doubt with Elvis Costello. First it was Farm Aid now comes "Chef Aid: South Park Album" (Oct. 20th) with contributions from Tim McGraw, Devo, Primus and All Saints. Melissa Joan Hart of TV's 'Clarissa Explains it All' works her magic on the soundtrack of the upcoming movie "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" (Oct. 27th), the album features new tracks from the Spice Girls, Sugar Ray as well as Sabrina's own Hart. Ironic as it sounds "Touched By an Angel" (Oct. 27th) also releases the same bewitching day as Sabrina, and we can find Deana Carter as well as former contemporary gospel star, Amy Grant, projecting their heavenly voices. Let's not get all wrapped up too quick Christmas releases will soon be caroling into the shelves around the middle of September, The Beach Boys, begin surfing into the Christmas spirit with their holiday release on Sept 22. Holiday albums from Martina McBride, Shawn Colvin and others will also be hitting the shelves just before Halloween. So, get those lists for the holiday and be sure to check them twice.
