She is not even in the same league as Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan, and Tori Amos. If everyone has not figured out by now, it is the music industry that decides what is popular. It is all one big marketing ploy that has absolutely nothing to do with artistic talent. Torn has been played over and over again so much; rammed down our throats, that it's no wonder it won the award. That's why I put no importance on award shows, or Billboard ratings....Mark D. - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Sep 1998 23:10:18 -0500 From: Kara & Tina Subject: Re: (harbinger) Re: Mtv awards Since when has MTV been about who is good? It has been, and always will be, about who's fashionable and popular.... that's why you don't see any nominations for Paula, Sarah, Tori, etc.... and, well, it's pretty much that way for most of any type of awards thing.... yes, for the most part, even The Grammys... face it, if Paula hadn't sold that many CD's or didn't have her hit with Cowboys, she'd still be that good, but she wouldn't have even been nominated. Well, that's my 3.1459... cents. Her entire album is pretty good and I used to play it non-stop. I was sort of a fan of hers but she seems sort of snobbish -- even in interviews where you're supposed to cover that side of you up. But, I don't think it's because she thinks she's popular in USA but because she's been famous in Australia for many years. She was a snob before USA ever heard of her, so to speak. - -- Mark - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Sep 1998 23:52:35 EDT From: jeansapula@juno.com (Jean sapula) Subject: (harbinger) Re: MTV awards Just a little correction to my own post..Natalie won best new artist, not best female video...either way does she really deserve all the plaudits? All in all, the "awards" show did suck, I am so happy to use a VCR and fast forward button to watch it. I think the INFLUENCES commercials during the show were better, how people like Aretha and Arlo Guthrie affected rock stars' own music...I liked Ani's little cameo's. ...........................................Jean..................................................... _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
