And I totally agree that HORDE isn't her type of tour, but, more power to her. She STILL puts on a slammin' show. Can't wait for her to come around Boston again. - ------------------------------ Harbinger Public Service Announcement: Emergency contraceptives are methods of preventing pregnancy *after* unprotected sexual intercourse. I just wanted to spread the word about a talented singer-songwriter named Joy Askew. She's an intensely passionate and beautiful performer with an amazing voice, which is by turns sweet, powerful and captivating. Despite the apparent influence of Peter Gabriel, Jane Siberry and Kate Bush, her music is a combination of ethereal rock that is a dense, layered style that is sophisticated, yet very accessible to pop music lovers. She has been in the business for several years and has played and toured with Peter Gabrie (prior to Paula Cole), Joe Jackson and Laurie Anderson. A multi-talented artist who deserves to be heard. She was signed to Private Music in 1996 and released her debut album "Tender City". Unfortunately, the record label folded a year later and Joy was left without a deal. That didn't stop her from recording and releasing music. In 1997 she was part of the Lilith Fair and released an independent EP titled "Gorgeous Creature" specifically for the tour. This past month she released "When" a collection of songs from an upcoming film of the same name, which includes a great cover of Van Morrison's "The Way Young Lovers Do". If you get a chance to see her live, don't miss it! She puts on a great show and does a great cover of Joni Mitchell's "Carey." Below are 2 dates that she will be playing if you are in the New York and Boston areas. If anyone would like to know more please contact me personally. I just posted a raving review of Joy Askew's newest album to the Sarah McLachlan (FTE) and Happy Rhodes (ecto) mailing lists! Here it is: <> There are some crew members listed, too, but no cast members yet. Ok, back to the music..... Track 1: "When" Track 2: "Berlin 1945" Track 3: "Ireland" Track 4: "Color + Noise"* (Middle Section) Track 5: "The Way Young Lovers Do"** Track 6: "Color + Noise"* (Improv) Track 7: "Strawberries" Track 8: "Color + Noise"* Track 9: "When" (Long Mix) Track 10: "Almost Gone" *Written by Joy Askew + Kevin Bents ** Written by Van Morrison "Berlin 1945" and "Strawberries" are both beautiful slow songs -- perfect *soundtrack-type* music. "When" goes from a kind of haunting slow tune to a louder, more energetic musical adventure. And at the end of that song, you hear a repeating noise that sounds rather like a *pop* like we used to hear on the old vinyl records. Rhythmic handclaps performed by Alex Alexander start "The Way Young Lovers Do." The other songs are great, too......In addition to the wonderful slow stuff, Joy can get rather "wild" sometimes. I can't even begin to describe this stuff, so I won't. You'll just have to order it yourself. (www.artist-shop.com -- I got mine in just four days!) I *do* like it better than either of Joy's other two albums ("Tender City" and "Gorgeous Creature EP"). Highly, highly, highly recommended!!!! The packaging is rather interesting: A simple white cardboard sleeve with black & white Xeroxed paper squares glued on the back and front as covers. Really *looks* like a bootleg! I'm wondering if there will be a different version of the package when the movie is released.
