My oldest son had written a song to sing on senior talent day and one part goes like this; "If theres's a lack of diversity in this town It's cause if you think you're any diferent you get beat down They've oppressed our creativity and just by chance You think you are diverse because you're super bowl champs"- alot of the song was about how his friend was smacked around by some jocks- He sang this in front of the entire graduating class and was promptly cheered by the football team who didn't have a clue that he was referring to them. I was so proud of him (and thrilled that he didn't get the shit kicked out of him) that this brought tears to my eyes. Anyway, about this time I heard Bethlehem and it really brought tears to my eyes, thinking of all of the kids who get hurt in school and picked on. I dragged his friends home to listen, made them tapes etc. and it can still bring tears to my eyes. Oh, and "She can't feel anything anymore" - a real killer. And when Fiona Apple sings the line from Sullen Girl-"He washed me ashore and took my pearl, and left an empty shell of me" referring to her rape, it just breaks my heart. And also, an old "friend" made me a tape with a Tom Rush song on it called "Urge for going" and this makes me sob like an old fool :) BTW, proud mama that I am, I have the lyrics to my sons song if anybody wants to read them, I'd email them privately. Hello. I belong to a few other lists, but I've never done this before. I just subscribed to this list and I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Bill and I'm 18 years old. I live north of Pittsburgh (which is a good thing because I can go to concerts in Pittsburgh or Cleveland.) My story is kinda like STEVE's. I heard WHATCG? and liked it and then I heard IDWTW and loved it, so I bought the CD. The first non-single I began to like was Throwing Stones...then Mississippi and Road to Dead and Feelin' Love, etc......Then I saw that Paula was scheduled to come to Pittsburgh on December 13th so I got tickets...then Paula cancelled...so it was rescheduled for February 7th....and then Paula ditched us to be on Saturday Night Live and it was rescheduled again on April 20th. So, by the time this rolled around I had learned almost all the songs on This Fire (except Hush Hush Hush blah blah). I got in the FRONT ROW like 3 feet from Paula and I taped it..(didn't work as well as I had hoped). But, it was GREAT.....I knew all the songs from This Fire and she sang Happy Home, I am so Ordinary, WTWH, Bethlehem, and Hitler's brothers from Harbinger. They sounded cool, so I bought Harbinger. I LOVE IT! (I'm listening to Oh John now) Paula is GREAT!! I LOVE HER. It turns out, that my ALL TIME FAVORITE (Olivia Newton-John, go ahead...laugh) has a new album out, and I like it and all, but I would soooo much rather listen to Harbinger...what does that mean?? 8-) As for my other music likes...Olivia, Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Paula, Alanis (I have soooooo much Alanis & Sheryl stuff), Lisa Loeb, Matchbox20, etc... Thats about all for now....except, I've started a Paula Cole webpage....I don't want to give out the URL yet...until I get a little bit more done....but if you want to visit my homepage it's at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palladium/4212 Thanks for reading my ramblings, Bill (P.S. Its a cover of a John Lennon song, but I dont really like the beatles or JL that much. Well anyway..the day I got the bootleg, was the day that my best friend, well actually ex best friend, but we're not enemies, parent's came over to say goodbye before they moved to Florida, this was a month ago. Well..I kept thinking of the song in my head the whole night and thinking of all the memories and yes crying lol. Anyway..last thing...N's E from Paula also made me sad. The day I was listening to it, when I got it, my cousin Joanna was going back to Denver, over the summer, and I heard about this girl that died, she was VERY sick at an amusement park we went to the day after or before, so I kept thinking of that, and it went along with it. it was just sad. It proved to be a big help in moving on. The healing power of music - unexplainable but real. Peace JourneyBear PS: And to Rebecca Lay - One Tin Soldier is the theme from "Billy Jack" ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 22:17:18 -0700 From: Matt Presidente Subject: Re: (harbinger) songs w/crying power > At 12:14 AM 6/9/98 -0400, Jimmy Mac wrote: > >What song did Paula record for the latest Lennon tribute? > >Everybody gets just one guess.
