She was, once again, simply amazing. I don't know where she gets the energy to make each song sound as great as they do. How can she put so much feeling into Bethlehem and Ordinary over and over again? She is by far my favorite performer to see in person. Finally met the most gracious Phil and the very beautiful Paula aka Jays teacher. Good to finally meet up with these people. One of the women with me had never seen Paula perform before and turned to me halfway through the show and thanked me for allowing her to enjoy Paula this way. She was amazed, and it got me thinking. If you have only heard Paula through cowboys, then come and see her live, it must blow you away. One bit of advice: If the show is general admission, like this was, make the extra effort to get there early. Merries show is very short and you won't be standing up front long waiting for Paula. I made the mistake of being on the late side and was wedged in the middle of the crowd. Having been used to seeing Paula up front I was slightly disappointed to have to tippy toe and crane to see her. Finally got the shirt with my beloved border collie dog on front. It was an incredible weekend for me. I was not sure if I should go to either of the concerts, was still feeling kind of mopey about my surgery (even though it seems to be quite successful, it is a slow process of repair)..but..I got dragged out on both days, and had an incredible weekend! Saturday was phenominal....it was fun to feel MUCH more important than you really are! I was there with 2 gentlemen that are putting together a magazine article on Jay Bellerose, and because of that, we got VIP parking at the Hatch Shell (not an easy feat!), and we were on and off the stage, the backstage, etc, all day. It was nice to spend some quality time with Jay, and of course, everyone else has already said how great the performances were. Someone said that Paula didn't look that "into it"..didn't smile, etc..well..I was standing right inside the fence in front of the stage, and she looked pretty "into it" from there! Sunday was just a blast for me...we arrived at Lupos at 3:00..and met Jay and the band for the sound check. Unfortunately, Paula decided to skip this sound check, but we still had fun watching Jay and the guys "adlib" while everyone set up around them. I think the most incredible thing for my friends and me was, seeing how many more people are involved in the process than there were just one year ago. It used to be Paula and the band, 2 roadies and Phil....now there are people running everywhere! I got a tour of their tour bus, which is quite nice, ...they were about to embark on a trip to West Palm...so it BETTER be comfortable!! I have to brag about my "kid" Jay though... The gentleman writing the article had told Jay about a child who had been very sick over the past 5 years..with some form of EColi...and the first thing said was "how many tickets can I get her". Well..he treated that little girl like GOLD last night. He met her at the door and got her in early, brought her up on stage, let her sit at his set, and just fauned over her. Before they went on, he saw that she was up front, and offered to get her a place to sit up in the balcony. When she didn't want to leave, he went over, got her water, and went back to her with it. He showed that little girl so much love and attention, I'm sure she will remember it forever...and you know what?? so will I. My pride for my former student is not only in what a wonderful musician he has become, but in what a wonderful person he has always stayed. with much pride, paula R - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 10:45:29 -0400 From: Connie and John Groer Subject: (harbinger) Paula on HBO Paula wasn't on HBO2 last night. The Reverb show had the MM Bosstones, Save Ferris and SmashMouth on for 20 minutes each. Paula is supposed to be on eventually, but I don't know when. I subscribed to satellitte HBO just for this. Reverb is on every Sunday at 11 PM on HBO2 (it started April 26 and is supposed to go every Sunday night for who knows how many weeks). I sure hope they show Paula in some other venue than Reverb. Surely they'd have a hard time picking 20 minutes out of the DC show!! The good thing about Reverb is they also do sound bite interviews--if sound bites can be called good. Anyway, I'll be watching the promos to see if I can discern the Paula appearance date. % Connie Groer % % jgroer@mindspring.com % - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 13:14:26 -0500 From: dj12doz@webtv.net (Daniel Gross) Subject: (harbinger) videos for sale!!!! They are fronted by two women (one black, one white) whose voices interrelate soulfully, but that's as far as the similarity goes. Both are much better singers and songwriters, and they have a top-notch band to back them up. They would have been an excellent choice as an opening act for Paula.
