Paula's joy, excitement, and command were a treat to behold. this was the third time i have seen Paula, and each time kenn has managed to get himself into the primest part of the audience, and have his presence acknowledged from the stage by Paula. the show began with suawnee jo, which had incredible dramatic power, perfect lighting, and the presence to grab you, and hold you, hypnoticly hooking the entire audience. when the number ended i saw kenn spontaneously leap to his feet in standing ovation( and this was only the first song), Paula saw him as well and blew him a kiss. Paula seemed to take her entire energy to it's next level of expression. the raw openness of her expression, and how it stayed within and increased the music were very exciting, and amazing. i a bit lament the power of the intimacy of the smaller shows, but it seems time to move on from those to this larger level with it's different kind of excitement, which really is a lot of fun. the new song, free..... like ken i have only heard it the one time at the beacon show, and i hear the overtones of love and sanctuary in a relationship that kenn heard as well, but.... i came away with the impression of the influence increased fame and recognition have had on her life. she has moved from the freedom of some anonymity, to becoming a name and face known to everyone, every where acknowledges, leaving behind only the freedom she finds in her sanctuary with her lover. - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Apr 1998 13:32:30 -0400 From: "Silver Kat" Subject: (harbinger) REVIEW: 23 April 1998 NYC Hi there, So the show was pretty good... The Morristown show was much much better to me... I really don't like NYC audiences - for some reason all the excess comments and wooooing and people screaming "I love you Paula" during a song really bothers me, especially when people are sitting down... So I got there around 7:30, went in - saw Merrie tuning up her guitar... I had bought her white roses and when I got up to my seats, I gave them to her... She hugged me and thanked me =) My seats were front row - but they weren't what I expected... They were a bit too close and the whole vibe was a bit off... Merrie's set, which I was really looking forward to - was ruined by people next to me and in back of me making mean comments about her... Paula's set was the same as Morristown (see my Morristown review for setlist) with the exception of the addition of Hush Hush Hush played before "Free" Paula was wearing a brownish dress, her hair was in pigtails (which she took out towards the end of the set), black leggingtypethings and boots... This show was my 6th Paula show and I have to say it was my least favourite... But it was a great show - Paula was in an extra spirited mood it seemed and very happy =) Well, not much more to say - hope everyone who goes to the EarthDay fest today has a lot of fun... And if you got a chance to see Chantal you're so lucky!
