I got into a car accident on my way to see her. Pretty traumatic. Everyone is ok. Not much damage. The important hing is that I got to the concert. We got there at 7pm and found some free seats at the front. I really think that Paula liked playing here. The crowd was awsome. Cheering like crazy after every song. I managed to tape it which I was surprised cause the spectrum always checks bags. I bought 2 shirts (the chakras and the dog one) $20 each which is very good. it was so cool being like 3 feet away from her. she exuded so much energy throughout the concert. i'm stillbuzzing from it. Can't wait to see her in Ottawa for Lilith Fair. hoping Nettwerk will bring it to Montreal again. Set List: Suwanee Jo happy home throwing stones mississippi feelin love me whatcg raod to dead bethelhem tiger ordinary hush hush hush watch the woman's hands hitler's brother carmen idwtw jolene la vie en rose (wearing a blonde wig, black dress, long gloves and boa scarf...see article below) why doesn't paula ever do nietzsche's eyes live? phil? here is the review from the newspaper the next day: paula cole exudes granola vibes when it came to that part of the song where the cowboy ignnres his dishwashing wife for thecharms of male bonding and beer consumption, paula showed where she stands on the issue with a raised middle finger. the applause was immediate - for the hit tune, the bit of preformance art and the ideological position. cole assumed the role of neglected housewife with mesmerizing vocals, singing her way out of a bad situatrion, not for the first time presumably. she was the girl next door in nowheresville new england with straight a's and cheerleader ambitions. them she took up the piano, blew town and self actualized into a pop star. or so went the story last night that cole told to a partisan audience of 650 people at the spectrum. she sang 2 songs back to back about growing up in a place called bethelhem and not fitting in. "i do think these times really are the greatest teachers in disguise" she said in one of the several forays into opo psychology. on the second of those doen home tunes, tiger, cole nearly whispered the lines, disapearing into thin falsetto air, then taking on volume and letting the notes habg forever in impressive vocal acrobatics. by the songs end, she built her vocals into a configuration of scrams that was, in fact painful to hear- a scream therapy that few pop singers can manage within the boudaries of melody. needs lots of space elsewhere, as on the song mississippi, she fluttered her voice theough intricate scats, cletic dirges and mideastern ululations in anguised registers. then the bottom fell out, leaving the 30 year old singer alone with her piano. the backing end of things, providing reasonable guitar, dums and bass, and often staying out of her way. cole who won grammy this year for best new artist, needs lots of space. "where do i put this fire, this bright red feeling"? she asked a capela at the onset of one song. she put the fire into her voice first and foremost, but also played a convincing piano, some clarinet, finger cymbals and tambourine; she banged on the bass drum with a mallet, free formed into varios dance moves and energetically whisteled a song out of existence. "there;s nothing more important than following you soul" she sang on another song, and that seemed to sum up her mantra. in her last tune, she came out with a boa, blonde wig, slinky black gloves and the song la vie en rose - a fitting touch for an aura that gave off both granola vibes and showgirl slickness. that was the article in the gazette. its rare to read a review that dosen't have something bad to say. but the show kicked ass. we waited for a while to see if we could meet paula but she had already left, right after the last song suposedly. i gave phil 2 bracelts to give paula, once that i bought and one my girlfirend made. it was great meeting you phil, thanks alot! bye all, Corey Want to trade or buy concerts from Sarah McLachlan?
