Beth Ortton, has only one album so far, "trailer park", but it and her live performances should be checked out. along the lines of patti griffen, but with patti i was only grabbed by one song and even though i like her voice i never listen to the album. whereas with beth, i played and played the album for weeks until i got to know it too well and stopped playing it, then i saw her live and got a whole different feel about her, and the album was fresh and fun again. she come across sort of country (no shakesphere pun intended) blues, a bit of a melancholoy feel, but in concert she blows that image way out of the water, she is fun. her song they were playing on the radio very much reminded me of the bobby gentry song "ode to billy joe" in it's tone and feel. the whole album is loaded with gems, hopefully to some day be considered classics. next suggestion. Patty Larkin she is the best, overlooked, underrated, person in the music bussiness today. again a fabulous live show, great guitar player, charming personality, terriffic voice, funny stories, and great songs. she has been around for a while, has i think 6 cd's and two early albums available only on cassette. best place to start with her are the two most recent releases "perisable fruit", and the supurb "strangers world" her earlier stuff and the live album are also very good. others; catie curtis, very good and respected song writer, one of my favorites as well, but her voice is a little limited so i grow tired of her at times but she is very good. for beautiful, quiet, peacefull, soothing ,late night , music no body beats heidi berry. she came out on the 4 ad label, and was very much in thier genre, like the cocteau twins in tone, but prettier, more gentle, and less strange. with heidi it doesnt matter where you start, all her albums sound the same, but even that being true i own all four and will get her next one and the next one after that. ok now i have a man for you. Alejandro Escovedo. beautiful natural voice, song writing amongst the best. like patti larkin in that it is a testament about the stupidity and narrowness of pop culture that they are both not stars, even household names. alejandro has a new live album out that i have not yet heard, but he is terriffic live so i am looking forward to it, but the best place to start with him on his 3 previous albums is the formerly most recent "with these hands", the man is a natural musician and should not be overlooked. cousin to sheila E, and one of the guys from santana's early band. in the singer song writer genre, with a bit of a texas feel. but certainly not texas hard ass. now i have a group for you, The Nudes. well sort of a group, two people walter, singer /song writer /guitar player, and stephanie, singer /cello player. they have two albums, start with "velvet sofa". thier songs get that big welling emotional tide going, in a very pretty and tastefull manner. in the tradition, or tone of 60's folk pop, like brewer and shipley. well in the type you were looking for i think i have suggested enough to keep you a little busy, and hopefully find some stuff you like steve - --part1_891466139_boundary-- - --part0_891466139_boundary-- - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Apr 1998 19:47:05 -0500 From: "Jessica K. Did someone already mentioned about this CD-ROM magazine? There is a video interview of Paula Cole and "An exclusive live performance of IDWTW" also in video (and you can also hear it on regular audio CD player too) is included. The performance is from the Indianapolis concert. This performance of "IDWTW" is a good one. I rank up there with the peformance on "The Session".
