All I know is that they came from Ireland, then lived some time in spain, then in Germany (not far away from where I live, in ahouseboat...), and now Ithink they have bought a castle somewhere. They 're ridicoulous, aren't they? I never thought that someone from the USA could know them....I thought only German kids were so childiosh to be fans of The Kellys or the Backstreet Boys...what a crazy world!!!Susanne - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Mar 1998 07:25:22 EST From: Riphug Subject: (harbinger) If you don't want to watch college b'ball tonight......3/30 8:00 pm EST COMEDY - THE FAVOR ** (1994) - A wife asks her single friend to fulfill her longtime fantasy with a high-school beau. I am so thankful to the folks on this list who have turned me on to some great music that I wouldn't otherwise have been exposed to. I am now looking for some more suggestions in the vein of writers who I like. I have just recently been turned on to Jonatha Brooke and the Story and now own all of their collection. I really love the songwriting, lyrics, and harmonies. My favorite of the albums is Angel in the House, followed by 10 Cent Wings. Again, thanks for the enlightenment. I've heard of Kim's solo, but have heard that the songwriting is not great although her voice is nice. I love the Patty Griffin song, "Let Him Fly, " but skimmed the CD at a listening station in the USA about a year ago and didn't think anything was as catchy as that song. Should I give it another chance? Kenn mentioned someone who was his favorite discovery from 97 (I am embarrassed, I can't remember her name..I believe she opened for Paula). I had the album in my hands to buy it and realised the store had a preview CD player. I popped it in and skimmed it and unfortunately didn't like it at all. I guess I was expecting pop melody music and it was too harsh for what I wanted. I loved the piano vocal songs from Chantal Kreviazuk that were featured on the Lilith Fair page, but didn't like the sound of her song that was on last year's Lilith Sampler. How is the whole album? I like Lisa Loeb and Natalie Merchant, but only in small doses. I think Alanis is a great songwriter (I have a lot of her bootlegs of new songs and think her new album will be great.) And I dig the Indigo Girls. I am not a big Jewel fan. I think Sheryl Crow is a decent writer, but I can't listen to either of her albums. My guilty pleasure is Celine Dion...amazing voice...but if I hear My Heart Will Go On one more time, I'm going to throw her overboard. (BTW, the world as we know it has ended...there are now dance remixes of that song. Scream for help. http://www.music.sony.com/Music/ArtistInfo/CelineDion/) Mostly, I am looking for EXCELLENT songwriting, good vocals and harmonies ..I guess in the style of Paula's "Happy Home" & "Bethlehem." Hopefully from the descriptions I've given, you've gotten a feel for the type of music I am looking for. Thanks for your help!!! Seems some folks just don't like 'music' unless it's adorned with such artificial crap. I actually work with a woman who, upon hearing 'More Than This' (a song that has as its most attractive feature an ethereal, flowing, euphonious feel) --quipped, "They need to spice this up a little...you know, make it danceable...." I heard a wonderful artist for the first time about a week ago. Her name is Trina Hamlin. Trina is a graduate of Berklee College of Musis. She is currently out of New York and playing in New York, Boston, and other selected cities around the country. Trina has a delightful mix of wonderful songwriting, great musicianship, and a voice that could blow down a brick wall. Her first album is called Alone but so far it is only available at shows or by mail-order but she should have a page on the web soon. If you get a chance to see her take it. She won't be unknown for long. Hope everyone is well.
