Please beware of a Dutch company called Rockhouse (www.musicmailexpress.com). I sent them $23 about three months ago and still have not received any merchandise from the company. All I've gotten is a run-around from the contact person, Frances, who has maintained almost no contact with me. The two times I have heard from him, all I've gotten were excuses and empty promises. Frances has given me the whole spiel about how they've been in business for 25 years with almost no complaints. I find this hard to believe. So, stay away from Rockhouse, y'all. And spread the word amongst your friends on other mailing lists. I don't want to see others get stiffed like I have. Peace. She is supposed to be on the CD, but I don't remember what song it is though. The track listing in the original post was taken from the Jewel Mailing list, I believe, and people questioned it, and got an answer. : ) - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 18:20:56 -0500 From: "Kenn" Subject: (harbinger) Guinness Fleadh Is Back In New York City!!!!!! I heard on the car radio the other day (amid much hootin' and hollerin' coming from me and my best friend) and just called to confirm with TicketBastard that Guinness Fleadh will be returning to Randall's Island in New York City this June 13th and 14th!!! I went to the second day of this two-day festival last year because Paula was appearing and it turned out to be more fun than I ever could have imagined. My roommate and I had a killer good time. The weather was beautiful. The people (while very full of Guinness) were so chilled out I couldn't believe it - not one fight broke out. The music was just awesome. And, best of all, I got to see Paula, Suzanne Vega (I was seriously about five feet away from her during her set), Moxy Fruvous, Luka Bloom and bunch of other performers I'd have never seen otherwise. Here's the lineup for this summer's festival: Day One: Saturday, June 14th - Sinead O'Connor The Chieftains Chumbawumba Nancy Griffith Saw Doctors The Corrs Richard Thompson Mary Black Dar Williams Luka Bloom Donald Lunny Band John Fahey Rogue's March Great Big Sea Susan McKeown Day Two: Sunday, June 14th - Tracy Chapman Indigo Girls Los Lobos X Roseanne Cash Shane McGowan Wilco Billy Bragg Saw Doctors Joe Ely John Cale Paul Brady Altan Yo La Tengo Elaine Ivers Band Frances Black Caipercallie Natalie McMaster Too Cynical To Cry Pierce Turner Black 47 OK... so Paula's not performing (no biggie, I'll have just seen her at the Earth Day festival...), but look at this lineup!!! In two days time, Sinead O'Connor, Dar Williams(!!!!!), Tracy Chapman, Nancy Griffith(!!!!!), Indigo Girls, Roseanne Cash and Luka Bloom are all going to be performing!!!! This lineup is even better than last year's!!! I didn't get to see Billy Bragg, Mary Black, Altan or The Chieftains last year. Here's another chance!!! YEEEEEE-HAAAAAA!!!!! It's going to such a nice warmup for Lilith. :^D The way it's set up out on Randall's Island is that there are three separate stages (last year, it was a main stage and two smaller stages - one sponsored by Doc Martens and the other by the Village Voice). Paula played the main stage, which was cool, but I'd have preferred to have seen her on one of the smaller stages (like the intimate set Suzanne Vega played at the Doc Martens Stage). I'm sure this year's headliners will be Sinead O'Connor and Tracy Chapman. They'll end up playing the last set of the night on the main stage from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The festival runs from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on both days. Some helpful hints: Don't wear anything you don't want to get dirty. Randall's Island was a dustbowl last summer. I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. I was totally filthy by the end of the day. Dust in my hair, my mouth and all over my clothes and body. My feet looked like they belonged on some kid who'd been playing in a sandbox all day. Ech. :^p It's still a majorly fun day, dust and all. You kinda get used to it after a while and the Guinness helps you to forget how unclean you are. ;^) Be aware that you have to pay attention to who is playing where and when. Otherwise, you might very well end up missing part of or all of your favorite performer's set. Last year, Wilco was scheduled to appear on the main stage, but they didn't show up, so Paula's set got moved up an hour. No one made any kind of announcement - all of a sudden you just heard Paula singing "Throwing Stones." We had to haul ass over to the main stage and squeeze in where we could. Also, you might find that two acts you really want to see are scheduled to perform at the same time. Nothing you can do about it. Just make a decision and enjoy the show. If you live within driving distance of New York City, you can't miss this festival. It kicks some serious ass. And, like I said, this year's lineup is even better than last year's (mainly, in my opinion (which needn't be yours), because Natalie Merchant and Van Morrison are going to be there again- hee hee), so you gotta go! I know a couple of people from the list were there last year and they reported having had a pretty good time, too. So, there ya go. The tickets go on sale tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. through TicketBastard. No prices are available yet. I think last year a one-day pass was $40.00 and a two-day pass was $75.00. That included parking. I'm getting my tickets tomorrow, so I'll let you know what the price is then. After a long winter of a mediocre concert schedule, I am once again loving living so very near this fantastic city.... :^D Peace. And, by the way... please... someone tell me that The Kelly Family isn't what I think it is. Please tell me that it's not that family of long-haired neo-hippie Partridgesque all-in-the-family musical group that is "taking the world by storm" as reported on their hour-long infomercial on cable. Am I the only person who has sat through that infomercial?? I couldn't turn away, actually. I was mesmerized by how frighteningly white they are. All of them - boys and girls - are blonde, with hair down to their waists and dressed like they just stepped out of some madrigal feast. They all look like they are not-so-distant girl cousins of Hanson. I don't know that I've ever seen anything more terrifying than The Kelly Family. And, I can't believe they are going to be playing to a New York City audience... hee hee... I have visions of rocks and other blunt objects flying through the air toward the stage in response to the groov-ay Johnny Bravo tunes they are known for. :^D It'll be worth going just to see that!
