Hi everyone, It's my first post here after lurking for a few months. I would guess that I really got into Paula Cole when I heard the last part of the concert from The Troubador in LA on the radio (you all know, the one that is bootlegged). I first heard of Paula when Secret World Live came out, being the Genesis and related artists fan that I am! Still, the radio show really caught my interest and buying "This Fire" was the hook. What an album! It seems like Paula just let it loose compared to "Harbinger", which I got last Christmas, and I'm not taking a shot at the debut either, it is really good too. I saw Paula in October at The Wiltern in LA and what a show! The intensity displayed was amazing. Everyone's eyes were definitely on Paula as she commanded the attention of every person in attendence. Quite an experience! I'm looking forward to seeing her again (yet not at that charity event, there wouldn't be enough Paula). I do have a few questions and favors: * When will the ME CD single be released if at all? I figured it might be released around the time of the Grammies but there is no sign of it at all. * What will be the "B-sides" for ME. I'm a bit disappointed in the B's so far that have been released. I'm not big on remixes so I didn't buy the "WHATCG?" single. The "IDWTW" single only had an album version of "HB" so I didn't buy it. Why not a live version atleast? The only purpose to own these IMO are to have a complete a collection and enjoy the covers of these singles and can't really afford to do that, there's too much other things to buy. Let's get some live tracks like "Hush, Hush, Hush" and "La Vie En Rose" (Is that the name, I forgot!). * I want to trade for Paula material, especially the radio show since I could not tape it since I was at school. :-( The only Paula material I have is from TV yet I have many other items from different artists or I can send tapes with a self addressed stamped envelope, no problem! * Opening acts for Paula? Hmm, Phil, if you go to England, maybe you can find Peter Gabriel and drag him out of the recording studio - he's been in there way too long! Well, if that doesn't work, how about Joy Askew? Ah, it's 12:40 AM and "Sessions" is coming on at 1:15 AM. Paula better be on or else I'll cry in my sleep. So, Kenn, you're in orange, right? OK, enough already, right?! It's great to be around nice people, this list, along with the S. McLachlan list, make all other lists I'm on pale in comparison when it comes to acting mature. Bye and thanks for reading this far! Maybe you should give the song a few more listens, Katie. I could be wrong, but based on the emotion and images in the song, I really don't think Paula was referring to herself as a hooker and "John" as one of her tricks. Doesn't make much sense. As far as interpretations go, I suppose it's up to you decide what the "correct" interpretation is. Paula has never been one to divulge too much information about what the song means for her, personally, and she usually encourages her listeners to decide upon a meaning for themselves. That's why she left the lyric sheet out of This Fire. Peace. All info off of this site: http://www.netkonect.co.uk/~crewe/ For a pic of natalie at the 1998 BRIT awards go to: http://www.brits.co.uk/ Fast fact...Natalie used to be on the Austrailian soap opera "Neighbours", and is single. BIO: Born in Australia on February, 4th, 1975, in the New South Wales town of Berkleyvale to an Italian father (from Pantelleria, an island in South Italy) and Australian mother, Natalie Imbruglia, the eldest four sisters, started dancing at the age of 2, and singing and acting at the age of 13. At the age of 16, after leaving stage school and turning down a record deal, she got her first break doing an advert for Japanese bubblegum. Then she auditioned for a two week guest appearance in the Australian Soap "Neighbours" as the character Beth. Here character proved so popular though, that she stayed for two years! This was not a particularly happy time for Natalie though, as she told Emma Forrest in her recent interview for Sky Magazine, she was "treated with a lot of disdain. I really had to prove myself". After leaving Neighbours she disappeared from the public eye for a while, mainly I'd suggest, so that she could make a fresh entry into the music business with the minimum of reference to her 'Neighbours' past. This she seems to have accomplished. After signing with RCA she worked on her album in LA for six months, later travelling around America to work with some of industry's best - Mark Goldenburg (Eels), Phil Thornalley (The Cure), Mark Plati (David Bowie), Dave Munday (Belinda Carslile), Nigel Godrich (Radiohead) and Matt Bronleewe. Through her work with Nigel Godrich and Phil Thornalley she developed her own unique style, twinged with aspects from some of her own musical favourites like Shawn Colvin and Joni Mitchell, and wrapped up in an amazingly powerful and expressive voice. With her recent venture into the music industry it may seem to some that Natalie has left her acting career behind. Not so, according to a recent interview, she's just so busy with her music, and so determined to concentrate on it, that she's put her acting to one side for the moment, although she says that she would be willing to return to acting in the future, should the right part come along. Natalie now lives alone in West Hampstead, and has just finished putting a band together ready for a tour in March '98. She prefers peace and quiet to the full-blown rock and roll lifestyle, and likes to stay at home to write letters to friends and family, rather than go to music biz parties. 10 things you might not know about her: € She takes her coffee black. € "I'm such a chameleon. I never get bored". € The word she most often uses to describe her life is "scary". € She always wanted to be an adult before she was one. € She wasn't academic but was into "the creative subjects". € After getting her record deal she left her north-west London home for Australia, after having a 'crisis of confidence". € In her words "I'm a pessimist". € She hates meat. € She has an "Italian temper". Torn~Lyrics Natalie Imbruglia Left of The Middle I thought I saw a man brought to life, He was warm, he came around like he was dignified, He showed me what it was to cry, Well, you couldn't be that man I adored. You don't seem to know, seem to care, what your heart is for, But I don't know him anymore, There's nothing where he used to lie, My conversation has run dry, That's what's goin' on. Nothing's fine I'm torn... I'm all out of faith, This is how I feel, I'm cold and I am shamed, Lying naked on the floor, Illusion never changed, Into something real, I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn, You're a little late, I'm already torn, So I guess the fortune teller's right, I should have seen just what was there and not some holy light, But you crawelled beneath my veins and now, I don't care, I have no luck, I don't miss it all that much, There's just so many things, That I can't touch I'm torn. I'm all out of faith, This is how I feel, I'm cold and I am shamed, Lying naked on the floor, Illusion never changed, Into something real, I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn, You're a little late, I'm already torn, Torn, There's nothing where he used to lie, My insparation has run dry, That's what's goin' on ... nothing's right I'm torn I'm all out of faith, This is how I feel, I'm cold and I'm ashamed, Lying naked on the floor, Illusion never changed, Into something real, I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn I'm all out of faith, This is how I feel, I'm cold and I'm ashamed, Bound and broken on the floor, You're a little late, I'm already torn, Torn. _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Who CARES?) and perpetuating stereotypes he was influencing unthinking minds etc... Anyway, I recieved a reply from the station manager stating that "...we strive to entertain and yet reflect our community...we realize that some topics may offend the sensibilities of some listeners, our goal is to be family oriented and sensitive to our audience...I hope you keep listening."
