Would that be Old Faithful, or another one? No offense intended here, but I must object to the bashing of ALL the 'geezer' awards awarded, Amy. Granted, (hey, Amy Grant!) Granted, my favorites didn't get all the awards either, with the exception of one lady from Massachussetts. But, I thought Dylan's performance ROCKED! Am I alone on this one? I am not a Dylan fan at all--notta ONE of his albums in my collection (yet). But after seeing that VERY professional, bluesy, soul-filled performance by Mr. Dylan, I have a newfound respect. I've always liked Lanois, and am going out at daybreak to purchase me a Dylan/Lanois tastytreat. If anyone DID like that song, go get Johnny Cash's latest release, Unchained. My musician brother gave it to me for Christmas, saying it's Cash's best album EVER. I laughed it off, thinking the whole Johnny Cash thing was my brother's 17-dollar idea of a joke. Well, it hasn't left my 5-disc changer since 12/25. And Amy, if it helps at all, the songs on that album are cowritten with hipsters such as Beck--and performed with member's of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers (Or is he a geezer too? ;-) ) Cash and Dylan are 2 old guys welcome in my house anytime. How old are these complaining people, anyway? 11? Come on, kids; music didn't begin with Debbie Gibson. I'm not saying I didn't want Paula and Sarah to win ALL the Grammys (it would have been sweet!) But ya gotta respect the people who've been in the trenches, giving their all, sweating onstage in smoky venues til 3AM every nite for forty years. It's called a job well done. Good for them. And good for Paula!!!!! Too bad Celine Dion didn't fall down the stairs, though. Now THAT would have been fun to see. Not so she would get hurt, or anything--I'm not a mean person. Povie, I do respect the work of the people who have been there a while, I even saw James Taylor in concert this year (drove all the way from alabama to ohio for it:). While not my favorite artist, I do admire what he has done and meant to people, and the fact that he is still in the mix turning out quality albums speaks volumes on his talent. However, I just think the committee went a little old this year...I mean Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder for best dance album....a new category gives this award to people who were in their prime 20 years ago...I mean I like Giorgio and love the stuff he did with Donna and Blondie...but I do not think they should have been given this award....the grammys just seemed a little out of step (i.e. John Fogerty, Bob Dylan and James Taylor). amy oh and by the way I am 25 not 11:) - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo-test@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Please note the new majordomo address To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Feb 1998 00:27:29 -0800 From: Larry Sievers Subject: (harbinger) I knew she would... It was like we all totally freaked out in our living room when Paula won... but I had to regain composure and resume my "I knew she would" pose. And having Aretha present her with the award was really neato, especially after having heard her talk about the First Lady of Soul and the influence she has had on her career just the other day. And remembering our discussions and mild disappointment with Paula's visit to Saturday Night Live... wasn't it just a li'l weird that the "Blues Brothers 2000" were up there with Aretha when Paula was presented the award?
