In my very humble opinion, I thought she seemed to really be straining on the opening notes, and I thought she seemed a tad sharp, too. I kept wondering if the song was being performed in a slightly higher key, because she wasn't changing registers in quite the same way as she usually does. Anyway, the performance seemed to improve as she got into it.....but not until over halfway through. Yes, she *did* seem either nervous, or tired, or otherwise restrained at first. But you know what? No matter what the amount of time you can spend warming up backstage, it makes a big difference where and when you hit your real performance level in an evening, and an evening of one numbers is a tough one for one to get properly prepped. The feel of the stage, the sound of the stage, the monitors, the energy from the audience - they all feed into it, and how warmed up your voice is and how the flow of air versus the flow of adrenaline contribute to things like making one have a hard time supporting the high notes at the beginning of the whole evening's single performance. They could cover Zambonie races, but they could not interview an artist with 7 Grammy nominations. She has been so sweet and fresh and has such passion. I enjoy and look forward to everything I hear about. Whereas most stars you hear their name on the air waves and think "Oh no, what did they do now?" Maybe that is why, you have to be an out of control Rodman or Madonna to get people to listen to you. That's why I do not care for Letterman. He would rather cover something lame and off the wall then someone who is genuine and unique. He probably just thought he could not get any laughs at her expense. That seems to be his kind of humor. He is funny. It is a shame that he wastes his talent in such a mean, belittling manner. Also remember when Dick Clark or Johnny Carson would go around and introduce the band. I would like to know more about them too. I said it before "If I want to hear the song I will buy the album. When I tune in or go to a concert I want a piece of the artist." Perhaps I am just over reacting. Just my two cents.
