It spoils the artistry. You see, my mom's cat is named "Kat Mandu," which was shortened to "Kat." My mom calls her "girl" which doesn't make sense since the cat's neutered. My sister and I call it "poopie," since it is all brown & black streaked. The cat only answers to the sound of the can opener. In summary, "Chiaroscuro" is just too cool a name for a dalmation. But if you're going to use it, use it. Who cares if nobody else can pronounce it, as long as the dog answers to it. In that shipment was a 2-CD version of a radio program called "The Difference" and this particular version is hosted by a woman named Elise Brown. I bought the discs because I had heard that one of them contained a live in-studio performance of "Ordinary" in addition to a brief interview and the album version of "Cowboys." I never would have imagined how beautiful this version of "Ordinary" was going to be. I just listened to it hear at the office and actually had tears in my eyes by the time Paula finished. The song is an acoustic version with Paula on vocals, Jay on highhat and (I'm pretty sure) on maracas and someone else on acoustic guitar. The guitar has that deep rich timbre that you usually get from one of the larger acoustic types. I've heard Paula perform this song many times, but usually she has done it while accompanying herself on piano. I've always thought that the piano version was probably the most beautiful version I could imagine hearing. I'm sitting here mildly stunned right now because this particular acoustic version tops even that. Her voice sounds so pure and all of that emotion is right there on the surface. Wow. It's really just great. Damn. Anyway....keep an eye out for this particular CD, folks. You'll only find it in certain used CD stores. Again, it's a radio show called "The Difference" and this particular show is #97-06 and aired the week of February 3-9, 1997. I hope you can get your hands on a copy. Already listening to it again..... Peace. Very cool article on Paula in the new Entertainment Weekly - starts out at a Museum looking at nude paintings...some cool new pictures, and talks about WHATCG having different meanings and stuff, and also Paula being nominated as Producer of the Year. The guitar has that deep > rich timbre that you usually get from one of the larger acoustic types. That sounds great! Una pregunta: does Jay substitute the highhat for the album's rimshot? When I listen to the album I hear rimshot, another percussion shaker-thing, and then tambourine on the chorus. How's this different? OK, that's two for the want list....:) chiaROSCurOE's dad - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 01:11:56 -0500 From: Jimmy Mac Subject: Re: (harbinger) my new dog Burr Rutledge wrote: > In summary, "Chiaroscuro" is just too cool a name for a dalmation. It's been my experience with dogs (and quite a few people, actually), that if you use a name that's greater than two syllables, you can forget about them responding to it. They're actually respond to the tones and inflections that your voice makes each time you say it, not the actual word. This dog is pretty bright, but "Chiaroscuro" would go down like a lead balloon when it comes to discipline. So, "Roscoe" it is, in non-PC circles. Besides, his former owner called him "Spot." How's that for an Academy-Award Winningİ name for a dalmation?
