Interesting results--with a couple of exceptions their jazz customers have pretty respectable tastes, their classical customers are have horrid taste and specialize in crossover crap, and in the pop chart the #7 cd in sales is Ani's new cd! Yes, a week from being released, so many people have made advance orders for it that it's already in their top 10 in sales... I don't know if anyone knows of Ladyslipper but it is a catlog of women's music. Particularly, they specialize in female artists and lesbian themed music but they are a great company for anyone looking for CD's of a woman artist or for even some hard to find stuff. They have a large selection of Ani DiFranco, Dar Williams, Paula Cole and many other great artists. They have a online catalog at www.ladyslipper.org and feature sound clips at the site. Ladyslipper also carries a large variety of international music as well as music and comedy videos. A large portion of the music they do carry is Celtic and pagan orientated also.... Check it out... Here is an interesting trivia that I came across while surfing the web. What two things do Paula Cole, Sinead O'Connor and Joy Askew have in common? The answer is pretty simple if you follow any one of them. Can you come up with the answer? I'll post the answer in a few weeks. I just got back from seeing Jen Trynin perform at the Mercury Lounge here in Manhattan. Fantastic show! Jen is a total rockchick and she just totally kicked ass!! After sitting through two opening acts (Mark Curry (who was pretty good) and Jack Drag (who wasn't)), Jen finally came on. She was backed up by her band - bassist, guitarist and drummer (very hot drummer, I might add...). Here's the set list: Go Ahead Everything Everything Is Different Now Happier Washington Hotel Bore Me Around It Writing Notes Getaway (February) Love Letter Better Than Nothing Under The Knife Encore: Snow Highlights of the night, for me, were hearing Jen do "Washington Hotel" (you just gotta love the dark beauty of a song about hanging yourself hoping that your soon-to-be former lover finds you and has to live with THAT for the rest of their life), "Bore Me" (reminds me of my life not so terribly long ago when my motto was "turn 'em and burn 'em" when it came to guys...) and "Under The Knife" (which Jen said is about "self love" - great description of this amazing song). The rest of the set REALLY rocked, too, but those were just my absolute favorite moments. The only thing that could've made the night any better would have been if she did "Do It Alone" and "Rang You And Ran." Alas, she didn't, but there's always next time. I got to talk with Jen for just a minute or two afterward and thanked her for putting on such a great show. She autographed my copies of Cockamamie and Gun Shy Trigger Happy. She seems like a pretty cool person. She was sarcastic and smirking and funny as hell in between songs. Told a few funny stories about how songs came to be - "Bore Me" came from her addiction to the TV show, "The Wonder Years." Jen's on tour right now. She'll be playing the Met Cafe in Providence, RI on February 13th and she'll be at the Paradise Rock Club on March 13th. Run over and buy tickets tomorrow if you haven't done so already. This woman and her band put on a great show and you'll walk away knowing you've been to one kickass concert. Just be aware that Jen's musical background is based on rock and punk, so don't expect her to sound like Paula. They're styles are totally different. Peace.
