I know what you mean about that-driving a long distance alone can suck-which is why I'm always asking if Paula is coming to Boston. AT least that's only about 35 minutes from my house. Since the time I saw her in a small club in Cambridge and she sat down and talked to me about her life in Alaska, and told me that she'd soon have a cd out that I could buy, instead of the $5.00 tape she was selling. I've seen her live a few times. She has always been very expressive and emotional when she sings. True, the Leno show was a little strange there in the middle, she went a little nuts, and shall I say "slightly" off key. But what I got from this performance is that Jewel did just what she wanted to do with Foolish Games. Sure, she was twitchy and whatnot, but I really feel she sang this way out of either boredom with this song or just the chance to experiment with it. I admired this muchly. She alluded to the fact that she is somewhat sick of her music. ANd who wouldn't be. These songs are old, old, old, and she hasn't been allowed to record any new music, of which she has plenty. I think she was ballsy to have sung this way. Now, don't forget, when my son, ol' man reggae becomes famous, Be Kind :-) Judy - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com All footer, all the time...never shaved. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 17:36:46 -0500 From: Christopher Povie Subject: Re: (harbinger) Tara MacLean tour dates added on the west coast... Well, it is over. Paula and the band were awesome as usual. Everyone seemed a little tired (I am surprised they are alive. They had just come from a concert in LA that lasted till after midnight) but, still had incredible energy and enthusiasm. They are without a doubt my favorite live performance. My third PC show in 8 months and I would go see them again tomorrow. Set list? I have no idea I was too busy enjoying the show, but she did close with Jolene. I love her version of it. The effects are unbelievable. The crowd was really different though. Dr Watson was really blue grass and had a huge following there. Most of the other performers were very folk with a mix of country. So when Paula and the guys came on the hard cores left. It is a shame that people are not open enough to experience new things. Also they had the sound way up for one person and guitar to sound good so when the whole band came on it really blasted. I did have a close encounter. I did not get to meet Paula, but I did get to meet and talk to Phil and Jay for a few minutes. They are awesome. Kind, friendly, down to earth, humble. I cannot say enough about them. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule Gentlemen! See you next time. Well that's about it for now. I might have an addition later, but I will have to see how things work out. AIDS Vaccine Team Promises Medicine .c The Associated Press CHICAGO (AP) - A physicians group that plans to test an AIDS vaccine with live strains of the virus in humans says test subjects will get free medicine if they contract the disease. Answering criticism that it is moving too fast with the tests, the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care said it has lined up three pharmaceutical makers to provide free medicine to the volunteers if they need it. More than 200 people, mostly doctors and other health care workers, have volunteered to test the vaccine, including Joe Zuniga, a former army soldier who was discharged in 1993 for disclosing he is gay. ``We don't expect people to progress into AIDS, but we're trying to avoid that `reckless' label that some people have assigned to us in the world,'' Zuniga said. The vaccine will be made with a live but weakened strain of HIV. The Food and Drug Administration, which has not yet approved any AIDS vaccines that include a live virus, is reviewing the plan. The group hopes to begin the trial in 2000 and have an effective, safe vaccine by 2007, Zuniga said. The first trial would begin by injecting five volunteers, followed by a six- to-nine month monitoring period for safety and tolerability. If it appears safe, the number of participants would be gradually increased. Some physicians contend the volunteer effort is premature because not enough work has been done to ensure the safety and usefulness of any AIDS vaccine. - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com All footer, all the time...never shaved. ------------------------------ End of harbinger-digest V3 #41 ******************************
