Do some research ahead of time - there may be an outlet in an unusual place that you didn't know about. Other people may not know about it either, and that gives you a better chance to be first in line. As far as the advice to call a TM number in a completely different area, I would say do even *more* research on that ahead of time, because when I worked there, that was *not* the case. (Admittedly that was 1994, but I don't think TM appears to have made massive technical advances since then.) I worked for TM im Michigan, and the MI system only handled shows for Michigan, Toledo, OH, and Windsor, ONT. People would call for tickets for Columbus or Cleveland or Chicago, and we had *no* way of helping them. We couldn't even look up the shows, let alone sell them tickets. The office where I worked also handled the Philly/Eastern PA system, and I think that covered some of New Jersey as well. But we couldn't sell tickets for New York shows, for instance. Now, they *may* have changed this, but the only way to find out is call the number you're planning to call for tickets a couple of days ahead of time and make sure they're selling tickets for your area. Otherwise you may be in for a big disappointment on the day tickets go on sale. Even if you can use a number for another region's TM, there's no guarantee that they won't have a big show going on sale at the same time as your local TM (especially if that time is 10am Saturday). You may think that Sarah or Paula will clog up the lines in your local area, but wait till you try to call somewhere that has Aerosmith tickets going on sale! If you *are* planning on calling for tickets, my advice is to start calling no earlier than 15 minutes before the on-sale time. Any earlier than that, if you get through they're just going to make you call back anyway. If you get through to a real person at five til (assuming being on hold for 10 minutes), you may have a chance to hang out with the operator and snag the tix as soon as they're released. Anyway, that's my meager advice on ticket buying. I guess my main message is research, research, research! :-) pax, Sarah ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com All footer, all the time...never shaved. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jan 1998 12:44:19 -0500 From: "Kenn" Subject: (harbinger) TV Spot!!!!!!! -Reply Jimbo wrote: > Has anyone else seen it? > Prime-time tv 30 second spot, even includes Paula swinging across the > screen au naturel. > WOO HOO! I missed Jimbo's original message.... what is this an > advertisement for? The 30-second commercial is a promotional spot for Paula. It's basically just letting everyone who has been living under a rock for the past few years that Paula is such an amazing musician and singer that she's up for seven Grammys. The commercial shows a couple of scenes from her videos and musical snippets from both "Cowboys" and "IDWTW" are featured as well. Then, the commercial ends with an animated version of the cover of This Fire, with Paula swinging back and forth in all her glory. Hope you all get a chance to see this ad. It's pretty damned cool to see Paula getting this kind of press. And speaking of Paula being the ominpresent one these days... Did anyone happen to catch the premiere episode of Dawson's Creek on Tuesday night? As I mentioned in a previous post, I don't know if the show if planning to use "IDWTW" as its permanent theme song or not, but the premiere episode opened with Paula singing her heart out. If you'd like to catch this episode, I believe it is going to be reaired on Monday, January 26th on the WB. You'll have to check your local listings for the time. Then, after they've reaired the premiere, the next episode will air the same night. As for the show itself, I have mixed emotions. I think it's OK, but I'm not bowled over by any means. On one side, I'm glad that the writers of the show apparently have chosen to knock the level of intelligence and dialogue up a bit from what kids are usually watching on ABC's TGIF night. Most young people could use a little help with their weak vocabularies and poor diction. On the other hand, the major characters of Dawson's Creek seem less than believable because they are each 15 years old and yet they speak as though they have advanced college degrees in communications with minors in philosophy. The youngins also carry themselves in a manner far beyond the maturity possible for their tender years. All in all, I suppose the show seems to be fairly harmless and might be entertaining to some. Maybe if I was half the age I am I'd connect with it. But, alas and alack, those days are long gone. I'll just try to remember that, when I was 16 years old, I once was touched deeply by "The Breakfast Club." "What if your home, what if your family, what if your dope was on fire?" "Impossible, sir. Its in Johnson's underwear." Ahh.. memories. ;^) Peace. In one of the interviews that's archived at that secondcoming site, Paula is asked about this. The interview didn't come over too well on the net, so I may have missed parts of it, but this is what I gathered from what she answered: She says that she doesn't usually watch tv, and doesn't think there is much value to it, in general. However, in this case, one of the writers called up and they talked about what Dawson's Creek was about, and how the song fit in with themes within the show. Maybe she watched a pilot, too (like I said, what I listened to was garbled/cut). The long and the short of it is, the writer convinced her to let them use the song. You may be able to get a typed transcript of it from the site since they did mention something about a typist being there. That would probably clear things up. That was incredible!!! I can't believe they premiered the video for "Me"!!! Yee-Haw!!!!! The video is beautiful. Truly and simply beautiful. Unfortunately, MTV didn't start the video at the beginning, but they still showed the lion's share of the vid. I also didn't catch any mention of the director's name. Did I miss that? As soon as I saw the latter portion of the video, a thought popped into my head. An interpretation of the video, I suppose. As the colors of the rooms and the clothing Paula and the guys are wearing change from red to yellow to green to blue to violet (the color on the TV here at the office is a little whacked, so orange might have been in there, too... I couldn't tell), I saw that the colors were gradually working their way down the spectrum. Then, just as everything turns violet, Paula walks outside the house and into the surrounding woods. What this reminded me of is a meditational device that is sometimes referred to as the alpha countdown. Generally, this "countdown" is used by individuals who are attempting to take an astral journey or spiritquest. By focusing on the colors of the spectrum from red to violet, the idea is to switch your brainwaves into a frequency conducive to an astral journey. I found this to be interesting because, in a way, it relates to the lyrics of "Me." As I discussed in that Nekyia post last summer, it appears from the words of "Me" that Paula has chosen to take a spiritual journey of her own - a journey within herself. The goal of that journey has been to bring back the "golden ring of wisdom" from the "cave" of her subconscious. That search for inner wisdom is a very popular reason for engaging in astral travel or lucid dreaming. What's that old saying? Something about "If you cannot find it within, you shall never find it without". So, anyway, in the video, I saw Paula's move from the colorful rooms of the house into the natural setting of the woods outside as that transition from wakeful consciousness into the lucid unconsciousness of an astral journey. I also took note of the fact that the season Paula entered was autumn (the leaves on the trees appeared to be a vibrant gold) and that she was cloaked in purple (the color of the divine). Autumn is the time of harvest and a harbinger of the time of death and gestation. So, she has taken this inner journey and harvested wisdom from the garden of herself. Now, after nourishing herself with this ripe wisdom, she casts the seeds to the ground where they can lay in wait through the winter months. Then, in the spring, the seeds of that wisdom can be warmed by the sun and allowed to take root. OK... I'm probably getting pretty metaphysical and moonbeamish for some folks... I'd like to hear some other ideas about the video. I must say, it was well worth the wait. And how about that stuff Paula mentioned about putting out her next album NEXT YEAR!!!! YEA!!!! Glad to hear that, if things go as planned, we're not going to be waiting for Paula as we've had to do with other artists in recent years. Peace. Hiya, On the live internet interview thing that Paula did the other night, she stated that she was approached by the screenwriter of Dawson's Creek and asked if they could use her song for the promo. Paula indicated in the interview that she was reluctant at first, 'cause she doesn't like TV much ...but after having viewed the pilot she agreed to allowing it's use. He's done Tori, Alanis, and is finishing up one for Fiona Apple. It might be feasible to get him to do a Paula poster. To see what he's doing for Fiona, go to http://users.soundcom.net/ahorn/apple/fiona.html Part of the proceeds for the posters for Tori Amos and Fiona Apple go to RAINN. My husband is a fanatical Fiona fan, so we ordered one of those. But I like Paula so much more than Fiona. I enjoy Fiona's music, but can't quite handle her as a person. IMHO, Paula is just all-around superior as an artist and as a person. But that's beside the point. Would anybody be interested in seeing a Paula poster? This is just a feeler for interest level, not a solicitation. And I saw the ME video on MTV Live Thursday night. I really liked it. It's very simple, but the color changes are wonderful. Paula was very humble and sweet as usual in the interview segment before they showed the video. But I was kinda mad because the goofy VJ talked during the first 10 seconds or so of the video (I don't know his name). And since I wasn't prepared for her (I caught it by accident)-- I didn't get the interview and video on tape. At the end of the show, they gave Paula a Led Zeppelin Stairway To Heaven CD because she said she had never heard any led Zeppelin music. Hmmmm... wonder what she'll think? % Connie Groer % % jgroer@mindspring.com % - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger To buy Paula merchandise from Paula(!) try: http://pw2.netcom.com/~ilml/pcmerch.html Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com All footer, all the time...never shaved. ------------------------------ End of harbinger-digest V3 #28 ******************************
