Remember like when Paula did that song where her old man is having a beer? Don't you think that was really cool when she did that? She could like drink a beer in a Marilyn Manson song, right? That's like some kind of art, right? I mean, it's the message, man. The music... Marilyn singing with Paula in a duet of 'Carmen' ...it would just blow everyones mind! WAIT! Why not at the Grammy's? It would really open new markets for the music, ya know? Oh man, this is gonna be great! I have to call my brother and tell him about it. When i hear the piano keys being softly pressed in the opening all the way to the sweet scream of her voice at the end which comes to a drone I'm mezmorized and loving it. I never actually thought hard a truely what it was about. Please enter your looming thoughts here -------> "I was there and I was it with my own two eyes" - - that darn guy she was with who was 'young and strong and perverted' cheated on her in her own bed and she caught them. "I was there c'mon tell me I wasn't worth sticking it out for. I was there and I know I was worth it 'Cause if I wasn't worth it that makes me worse off that you are." - - you go Chantal, i bet you were more than worth him and you sticking it out in the relationship. Then the bomb dropped, she hates it, tries to fight it, and she sometimes still gets that Call. Now what is the song/lyric really about, of course forgetting my postscripts, because they are easily forgettable. Well a good friend of mine in Vancouver tried to get tix to Chantal's 2 nights at the Starfish room, but of course it was sold out, i told her she waited way too long to purchase, my conviction of her obvious and i felt bad after blurting it out. Well then my friend said she caught her on a local radio show and described how Chantal was very open and talked about what Surrounded was about.... It's about her boyfriend committing suicide. "Oh you were a star" "I was there and I was it with my own two eyes" "I was there c'mon tell me I wasn't worth sticking it out for. I was there and I know I was worth it 'Cause if I wasn't worth it that makes me worse off that you are." "Sometimes I still get the call" "So don't you lose sight of me now. Rainy Day Records has 6 copies left right now, but they said that would be all they're gonna get, so once these 6 are gone, they're gone. So, if you wanted a copy I'd suggest you get it ASAP. Rainy Day can be reached at 800-636-6166. Ask for Perry -- they're the best!! For those of you who've missed it, here's the low down on "Hush". It was recorded live at the Troubador, in Los Angeles on 10/23/96. It is of very good quality, both in packaging and in sound, as far as live imports go. Here's the track listing: Happy Home Throwing Stones Mississippi Bethlehem Tiger Hush Hush Hush (listed at Nietzsche's Eyes on album) Feelin' Love Where Have All The Cowboys Gone Watch The Woman's Hands Carmen I Don't Want To Wait Jolene So, there you have it. I wanted to get the feel of this group first before I drive into it. Since I've been dormant there are so many things that I want to discuss. So rather than giveing a long message I will post many short messages. First, I am very impressed by works of Paula Cole. I not saying that because she received several Grammy awards or she is getting popular. These things don't matter to me. I like her works because they are personal and universal. (more on that later)I think "This Fire" as an album is a great achievement but in my opinion "Harbinger" has better songs. Songs on "This Fire" are organised certain way to emmulate trasformation of life. Each song by itself is just a song but as a unit played in right order it a journy of transformation. And this has attracted me to her works more than any other new artists. A.M. First I didn't why these names are discussed (besides Sarah Mclacheln) as relating to P Cole. Then I bought a copy of "The Imago Traveling Road Show" and "The Best of Mountain Stage vol. 8" TBMS vol 8 is a great album with talented artists. Ani Difranco et all. Of course you all discussed this a long time ago but for a neophite it is something revealing. For all you neophites get TBMS vol 8 not just because P Coles performs "Happy Home" but because of other great artist too. For TITRS it shows the collection of raw young talents. I realy like the demo version of "Bethlehem" better than one that's on "Harbinger" Aimee Mann is okay; I like her sound. The rest is interesting eclectic mixture (but sometimes too pop). I don't recomend TITRS highly as TBMS vol 8 if you are P Cole fan get it as archival reason. It's still possible to get both of these CDs. One must look hard for it. TBMS vol 8 is not out of print so it would be easier. For people who are old to the list I sorry for bringing up this old topic but I just excited about TBMS vol 8. A.M. Now I like to express my lament to you. Last Saturday night I was all set and view and record VH1's "Duets" I recorded the show for a few minutes but when I turned to other station (local PBS affiliate) I saw Paula Cole playing "Suwanne Jo" on her clarinet. Oh my god I thought. They are showing "The Session on West 54th!!!" now at the same time as "Duets"! I quicky stop recording "Duets" and started to record "The Sessions" Luckly, The Sessions on Paula ended before the song "Watch the womwn's hand" on "Duets" but I missed the first duet between Paula and Melissa. How dare they put these promgrams at the same time. What I'd like to know now is that how much of "The Session" I've missed. Are there any songs before "Suwanne Jo"? Was it the first song? Somebody please tell me. By the way some people living outside North America expressed an interest in acquiring video tape of Paula Cole. Well it difficult because the system of N. America and Europe (including the British Commonwealth countries) are different. N. America including Canada uses NTSC on the Video system; whereas, Europe basically uses PAL (I think Australia and New Zeeland uses British convention, not sure) And eastern Europe and Arabic countries still use another system. So it's a mix up. There are two ways to over come this. First is go to a video transfering service to convert either into or from another system. This will usually cost mucho bucks. Alterantive is to buy VCR that records and plays all the system. I looked into this and it costs twices much as a regular machine. So there you have it. A.M.
