(Next Wednesday, Jan. 14) They're lead by the harmonies of two very talented women, Jackie Murphy and Vanida Gail, the rest of the band is pretty damn good too. It's not Paula Cole, but it's real good music... any questions W/B . There are thousands of artists out there who have hit on other artists songs. " This is true, without dispute. But I think the prior posts regarding this issue were just voicing a LITTLE ire over the fact that a favorite artist's relatively unrecognized efforts were used as a *launching pad* for another's career. Kind of like when you say something clever or wittily funny under your breath, and no one hears it; the big galoot next to you voices it as his own, and gets the laughs and the pats on the back. (Don't you HATE when that happens? ;-)) And the fact that a lot of untalented yahoos are out there making huge dollars from essentially recording extended samples of former greats serves to argue AGAINST such activity, not FOR it (doesn't it?) Relax, Alana fans, I'm not referring to *her* in the above. I often wonder these days, what's with the recent trend of releasing *covers* of songs on a debut album? I would guess that an artist would be so happy at even getting a major *record* deal that he/she would have a tough time deciding which of his/her OWN songs to include in the premier public work. Maybe there's just more posing going on, and less creating... ("Killing me softly with his song... BaDoom Boppa Doom...BaDoom Chukka Bip...") That was (they were?) 'The Vapors'. I don't think Jules was in that band, but I think you're right, Steve--that he *was* part of some other pretty-well-known group.
