Well, I can't claim to have any more information on this record than you do, but I seem to remember when it first came out on JBEL (the JB list) that a posthumous album was going to be released, that not only Columbia but Jeff's family (mother - I don't know who else?) were going to be involved in how it was put together. That said, I don't think any album released now could possibly be _exactly_ what Jeff would have wanted. He wasn't done recording it yet. And (again, IIRC), when he drowned I think it was en route to meeting with his full band for the first time since he began working in Memphis (I could be wrong on the specifics here). The best we can hope for is that Columbia, and whoever they have working on this project, fulfill it *responsibly*, befitting the memory of Jeff and the beautiful music he was capable of making. > >I miss Jeff terribly. I can't speak for Kenn, of course, but I've been trying to figure out just why I haven't gotten into Tori Amos or Ani Difranco the same way I have to so many other female artists. I like strong female singer/songwriters. I don't have an allergic reaction to either of their voices, per se. I've seen both of them live, and can appreciate their musicianship. Tori is an extremely talented pianist, and Ani can certainly whip the crowd into a frenzy. But in the end, I guess I just don't "get" them. I don't feel any real connection with them or their music. I haven't been inspired by their music enough to really delve too deeply into their lyrics (which I cannot understand without either extreme concentration or a lyric sheet). It's interesting that these two have been singled out (by whom, I'm not sure...Kenn?) as less-than-favorite artists. Of all the live shows I've seen, these two had the highest number of young girls screaming at every pause in the music. That in itself isn't enough to turn me off. I love the Indigo Girls. :-) But I still find that one of the most annoying things about live shows. And to just not understand the fanaticism that Ani and Tori inspire just made the experiences worse for me. Anyway, sorry for the non-Paula content. I don't begrudge anyone their right to find anyone fascinating. I'm just offering my reasoning (or an attempt at it) as to why I don't particularly like Tori or Ani. It's general admission and not nearly as scummy as some of the places I've been to in my long life It's also very easy to get to, plus you'd get to meet me :-) No, really, ever been to the Rat in Boston??? Talk about scummy-you'd stick to the floor if you stood too long in one place which is all I needed to know to get me to boogie-They've closed it, though, about a month or so ago. They've signed with Nettwerk and are working with Pierre Marchand, who produces and records all of Sarah McLachlan's stuff. They only played for about 30 minutes, but as I recall, it was a very solid, well-done set. Holly - -----Original Message----- From: I LIKE POTATOES! They opened here in Cincinnati for the Barenaked Ladies recently and will also be opening here for Paula Cole on February 4th. Not that it will tell you much, but here's an excerpt from a review I wrote after seeing them in concert last month: <> Personally, I thought Holly Palmer was the perfect opening act for Paula Cole......
