Hey, I just wanted to thank you guys for the music recommendations. I have really enjoyed hearing reviews of different artists from members of this list to point me to music that I wouldn't find on my own. I think I told the list when I first joined that I was exposed to Paula from a tape my friend sent me of her singing an acoustic guitar version of "Ordinary" from a radio broadcast. I picked up Jonatha Brooke's "10 Cent Wings" this Christmas and absolutely love it. She has a great web page, too, that has not only the lyrics, but some comments from the artist explaining where the songs came from. Now I will have to track down her other album. :) I tried in vain to find Jen Trynin's "Gun Shy Trigger Happy," but no one had heard of it. I have heard good things about the album from some of you guys. Are you still enjoying the album and should I try to maim someone to get ahold of this? To answer Kenn, there are actually a couple of different A-Ha albums over here. I'll go hunting this week to find out some album titles for you. Anyway, even though it isn't Paula-related, I just wanted to say thanks again for the help of this list in expanding my musical horizons with the suggestions and reviews. Also, thanks for Steve from Honolulu for the best wishes on my music writing. I appreciate it. (He must have sent some good karma along...the first printing of five thousand copies of the Christian CD a few of my songs are on sold out the first month it was released. The artist sang one of my songs on "Good Morning Arizona" Christmas week.) Now let's hope that my own band will take off in 98! It was starting to get pretty touch-and-go on toward the seventh and eighth days of my stay, but I managed to return safely from my trip to visit my family in Michigan and, miraculously, it would appear have retained almost all of my sanity. My kinfolk are doing well and were thrilled to see me. Got lots of good gifts from the parental units and my sibs, naturally. Caught up with some other friends and family I hadn't seen in several years. Shopped like crazy (loved those day after Xmas 50% off sales). Managed to become embroiled directly in a controversy involving one of my former native Michiganders who was fired from his post as a mall Santa because he told a little boy he wasn't bringing him a BB gun (obviously, I was on the side of the Santa... Down with game hunters!!). And, generally, just entertained myself with the local yokels. Their ability to amuse me with their provincial (and, sometimes, downright trashy) ways is one of the main reasons I will always return to my hometown. It keeps me humble. The weather wasn't quite as horrible as I had expected. It snowed a few times, but never enough to shut down roads or take down power lines. It was just enough to make things look pretty. The temperature, on the other hand, was brutally low. One morning, I woke up to find out that the temp was only 18 degrees. The wind chill was recorded at something like 1 or 2 degrees! It's just insane... I can't believe I used to have to go out for recess and play in that kind of weather when I was a kid in elementary school. Anyway... I'm a very happy guy now. I'm back in New York and back in the swing of things. My new boyfriend (an amazing man who came out of nowhere and made me fall for him) came through with some very cool Yule presents for me, which is definitely scoring even more major points for him. I'm getting prepared to put my nose to grindstone with regard to the novel I've been writing. I'm probably going to be getting away to Miami sometime next month (YEA!!!) and plan to get back down Mexico way by April (double YEA!!!). I still have another year before I have to deal with turning 30... All in all, I don't think I could ask for much more right now - except, perhaps, to see Paula perform live again sometime soon. The April show at the Beacon just seems like a lifetime from now. With regard to the allegations against our buddy, Phil.... All I can say is I was totally shocked to read the reports when I came into the office earlier today. I just cannot believe that the kind and generous guy I've hung out with so many times could ever be accused of hurting anyone. Not Phil. Kentucky has the wrong guy and I just hope that the time between now and when they realize their grievous error is a short one. We're here for you, Phil. Let us know if you need anything. Regards also go out to Paula, Jay and the rest of the band and crew. I know how hard this has to be on all of them, especially when it happened right as the holidays were upon us. Take the time you need to take and don't sweat getting back on the road any sooner than necessary. You all know we'll wait for you. That's it for now. Peace. You must track down "Plumb" by Jonatha (i found it under "The Story" when looking alphabetically in the music store). I listen to it more than 10 cent these days. It's like, if you get This Fire you have to get Harbinger kinda vibe. Plumb is a bit softer and slightly darker. For those of you who don't know a spit about me, I'm 24, live in Seattle, Washington and work for Holland America Line as a Group Coordinator in the Seattle corporate office. I know a few people from the Harbinger list that are on FTE and have lusted after one, but right now I hear he's taken (damn him!). ;-) I look forward to getting to know you all.
