I was a little disappointed, but I chalked it up to so-so seats and being too close to the bar. Why the hell do people come to a concert and jabber thru the whole thing? Grrrrrrrr!!! Oh well. We went to see the Moody Blues a few years back and one of our friends with us kept chattering during the songs. A little is OK, but she just went on and on. Finally we started to ignore her, and I think she may have gotten the message. I thought the album "This Fire" was phenomenal on its own, but Paula's performance Nov. 7th at the University of Houston took her music to new levels. My friend and I drove to Houston from Austin (where we live) to see the concert and were delighted when we discovered how small the venue actually was. In an intimate theatre-like setting, we had full view of the stage and could sit back in awe as Paula's magical performance transformed us into another world. She sang each song with an almost primal-like intensity, whether it was powerful as in "Throwing Stones," or pained and soft as in "Bethlehem." She jerked, beat-boxed, howled and danced like a gypsy. My favorite songs were the haunting "Mississippi" and a wonderful cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene." Even more incredible was that I got to meet Paula after the concert! My friend and I hung out afterwards waiting to see what would happen. There were about 12 other people hanging around and we found out they were radio contest winners who had won tickets to an "afterparty" to meet Paula and have her sign an autograph. One of the radio people came up to us and asked what we were doing. We explained we just wanted to meet Paula. The radio rep was cool and said we could hang out and pretend we were contest winners too. When Paula came into the theatre, she came straight to me and my friend first! She shook hands with us. We told her how wonderful her music was, that we had driven all the way from Austin, and that her show was incredible. She was extremely nice and warm and down to earth -- not like many musicians who try to get these obligatory meetings with the public over as quickly as they can. She looked at me intensely when I was talking and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say...all in all, this night was one of the best musical experiences I have ever had. For you Paula fans who have not yet had a chance to see her in concert, find a way to go!!! Travel where you have to -- you will not regret it. THE TALKING...it was sooo loud it was hard to even hear ordinary or bethlehem up close.. 2. The instruments were mixed very poorly 3. She left out Hush and La Vie En Rose. Those were the things that made it hard for me to enjoy....Paula was great and gorgeous as usual though :) amy - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 23:31:53 -0500 (EST) From: Scoobedu@aol.com Subject: Re: (harbinger) End of Journey Good luck Linds...
