Paula was great, of course, but the crowd was terrible. (Jewel would have walked off stage.) All they did was talk and scream at each other and these 3 drunk assholes (and that's putting it lightly) behind us laughed and screamed and talked the ENTIRE time. I just wanted to whack them all in the face 1-2-3 bam!-bam!-bam! and ask WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU HERE???? To drink and talk and laugh, or to actually see/hear Paula??!?!?!? Then, toward the end, they kept screaming "JOLENE!" and it was all I could do to contain myself. I wanted to hand them a setlist and tell them, "Look. this is what she's gonna do. She might not do it all, but if it's not on here, you can pretty much forget about it, and she'll get to Jolene eventually so shut the fuck up." AAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! I just don't understand people. I really don't. And the older I get, the less tolerant I'm becoming. OK, you pay money to see a show, then you drink so much you're not gonna remember half the show anyway, meanwhile ruining the show for everyone around you... not to mention the TOTAL lack of respect for the artist! Now I understand why Jewel actually tells people to be quiet several times duting the show. I mean, why are you there? to see and hear the artist, right? Call me crazy, but that's why I'm there. When we were at the Jewel show, some idiot in the very LAST row on the LAWN actually screamed, "Show us your tits!" OK, number one, she can't hear you! Number two, there are young people there with their parents at what's probably their first concert. Number three, what the fuck are you thinking?!?!?!? I just don't understand the total disrespect some people have. So anyway, I guess we're lucky she did the show at all. Phil said she's been sick for a week, and they almost cancelled. Her set list was pretty much the same as it has been, except she didn't do Hush Hush Hush. After Carmen, it's no wonder.... the crowd was so loud and obnoxious that another quiet number would have been futile. And she didn't do "La Vie On Rose", either, which I am still totally bummed about. I nearly cried when she said before "Me" that this would be their last song. (Guess we have the asshole-filled crowd to thank for that, too.) I mean, I had gotten 3 hours sleep the night before, had to get up at 5 A.M. to catch the plane, only to get stuck in Detroit rush-hour traffic, not to mention the never-ending construction. The traffic was so bad, we missed the direct flight to M.B. and had to fly first to Atlantic City, then catch the connecting flight to M.B. Tina and I cut up our credit cards, so we couldn't rent a car. It cost us $30 for a cab to get from the airport to the House Of Blues. Luckily, it's in the same area as Barefoot Landing (a shopping area) because we had 8 hours to kill before the doors even opened! Then all the disrespectful idiots practically ruined the show. Thanks alot. Afterwards, we had planned on just sleeping at the airport until our return flight this morning. Well, come to find out that the MYR airport actually CLOSES after the last flight gets in! This was a totally new concept to us, being from Detroit and only having flown into JFK in NY and a couple other 'normal' airports that are always open. Luckily, the security guard didn't kick us out when she heard we had no car, etc. But then, all the seats had armrests between them, so we couldn't lay down and sleep, and after seeing a few "creatures" crawling on the floor, there went that idea as well! *sigh* What we won't go through to see Paula! Well, I certainly hope that the crowd at the Pittsburgh show on Dec. 13th is better behaved. I think part of the problem is that M.B. is so touristy, and for some people the House of Blues was just something touristy to do. They weren't actually there to see Paula. They just happened to be there. That's enough rambling for me, and probably for all of you, too! Peace Out. ANd I can't believe you went through so much to see her. :( I know what you mean about the House of BLues. My son opened last May with his band at the HOB in Boston. Being the opening band and all, people in the audience were obnoxious. Loud and drinking way too much_(whatever happened to smoking a bone and quietly sipping water?:) I wanted to scream at them to shut the F*ck up, pay attention assholes - oh, and did I mention this was my son :-) Judy-who will see Paula in 6 days and I promise to hush hush hush - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Nov 1997 13:53:33 -0500 From: "Kenn" Subject: (harbinger) Paula appearing on ABC In Concert According to RockOnTV, Paula will be appearing with Shawn Colvin and Jonatha Brooke on ABC In Concert on January 16, 1998. As we approach the end of 1997, my thoughts turn to the year in music. As such, I ponder these questions: What artists or bands qualify as my favorite new discoveries in music this year? And, furthermore, what is it about them that made me sit up and take notice? I'll be getting back to all of you with my answers, but, in the meantime, I thought you might want to think about this for yourselves. Consider it a lunchtime poll, just like in "Heathers." ;^) Maybe it will give all of us some new music to check out. Peace.
