Hello, Has anyone picked up the soundtrack to "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" yet? I'm sure that Autumn Leaves is outstanding, but what do you think of the rest of the soundtrack? I'm considering picking it up this weekend and wanted to hear some opinions on the rest of the CD. Do I live an extremely sheltered life, or is this a totally different video than the one shown *normally* on VH1? Which version does MTV play? Anyway, I much preferred the pop-up version with Paula dancing around in her 20's flapper outfit! The video in general seemed to have much more continuity than the one I'm used to seeing, where she just seems to be trying out a bunch of different costumes! Have a good day everyone, Holly ;) - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Nov 1997 12:57:32 -0500 From: "Paul A. I have never had a chance to catch her live, other than on vh-1, and let me just say that she ROCKS. Her intensity is amazing. Her encore (done in a blond wig, black dress, and boa) was a little bizarre -- does she always do that? It was some song I had never heard before. Still amazing, though! Just had to share. Let me know if you want to hear anything else about the concert. Paul A. The video shown on P-UV *is* definitely a different version than what is generally shown on MTV, VH-1, MuchMusic or anyplace else the video appears in rotation. The version shown on P-UV is the original version. This version was the first one I ever saw (after weeks of getting up at 5 am just to catch VH-1's CrossRoads). After the video hit the airwaves, the original was pulled and the "Alan Smithee" version took its place. As I've mentioned before, I seem to recall that the video was originally credited to two fairly well-known video directors, but I've since forgotten their names. > Anyway, I much preferred the pop-up version with Paula dancing > around in her 20's flapper outfit! The original (especially after getting the once-over from Pop-Up Video) tells the story of the video in a much clearer manner. I really enjoy the full scene of Paula romping around in the sack with her powder-wigged suitor. I'd love to hear the story about that scene - looks like Paula and that guy were laughing their asses off the whole time. Peace. First on line at Sam Goody on Tuesday. :^) > I'm sure that Autumn Leaves is outstanding, but what do you think of > the rest of the soundtrack? I'm considering picking it up this weekend > and wanted to hear some opinions on the rest of the CD. I am quickly falling in love with this soundtrack. I'm not a huge fan of most contemporary jazz music (especially since the advent of acid jazz), but this CD is full of really great light jazz. It reminds me of being back in my parents' home in Michigan, listening to their old LPs and those romantic (sometimes sad) old songs by Billie Holliday, Etta James, Nina Simone, Tony Bennett, and the good ol' Velvet Fog, Mel Torme. Here's the track listing for those who haven't checked this CD out yet: 1. Skylark - k.d. lang 2. Too Marvelous For Words - Joe Williams 3. Autumn Leaves - Paula Cole 4. Fools Rush In (Where Angels Fear To Tread) - Rosemary Clooney 5. Dream - Brad Mehldan 6. Days Of Wine And Roses - Cassandra Wilson 7. That Old Black Magic - Kevin Spacey 8. Come Rain Or Come Shine - Alison Eastwood 9. Ac-cent-tchu-ate The Positive - Clint Eastwood 10. This Time The Dream's On Me - Alison Krauss 11. Laura - Kevin Mahogany 12. Midnight Sun - Diana Krall 13. I'm An Old Cowhand (From The Rio Grande) - Joshua Redman 14. I Wanna Be Around - Tony Bennett I like every song on the album, save one. Truthfully, I think it'd be hard not to like this music. It's the perfect CD to set to spinning on a Sunday morning when you have no obligations other than to do the New York Times crossword puzzle and/or lay around on the couch with someone warm (which is what I'm counting on doing some Sunday very soon). It won't likely come as a surprise that the only song I don't like on this CD I *don't* like is Clint Eastwood's contribution. Sorry to report that it's pretty bad. Clint should definitely not sing in public. But, the rest of the CD totally makes up for it. I do have my favorites. As I said in my previous post, Paula's rendition of "Autumn Leaves" is really beautiful. Additionally, Alison Kraus' "This Time The Dream's On Me" is just as beautiful as Paula's piece and Kevin Spacey's "That Old Black Magic" is just wonderful. You'll have to decide if you want to fork over the cash for it. If you like those old songs, then you'll definitely like the CD. Just imagine the music they play in some coffeehouses on the weekends or at some of the nicer restaurants during brunch. Then you'll have the idea. Peace.
