With regard to getting Paula a gift to present to her at her Beacon show, I, personally, haven't had a great many ideas thus far. I've given her a few gifts on my own in the past - a Bob Marley CD, those This Fire t-shirts, etc. But, this time, I'm not coming up with anything. The only ideas that have crossed my mind so far have been to give her a huge bouquet of tigerlilies or, on the more practical side, a really nice vegan or macrobiotic cookbook. Paula seems to like flowers (hell, who doesn't?) and she also seems to be really into cooking. That's all I've got right now. But, I'll keep thinking about it. Glad to hear some of you are into this. Peace. I knew you'd drop that little purple-haired kid eventually. ;^) > And how interesting that yours and Lynettes choice of costme was > "Autumn Leaves" Doo doo doo doo... It *is* a little eerie. I mean.. at the party, when we were asked what exactly we were, we just responded with "Autumn." A lot of people offered up their ideas of what we were - Puck, woodland spirits, dryads, etc. But, when the judge asked what we were, we told him we were "Autumn." For some reason, though, when we got the envelope containing our winnings, someone had written "Autumn Leaves" on the envelope. Then, I remembered that earlier in the evening a middle-aged couple with whom I was speaking about New Orleans mentioned to me that they had just come back from Savannah and that they thought I should definitely go down there for a visit. So, long story somewhat short, I was thinking about the synchronicity of the whole thing: Lynette and I get the envelope that has "Autumn Leaves" written on it.... the same night, this really cool couple suggests that I visit Savannah... Paula's covers Johnny Mercer's "Autumn Leaves" for the soundtrack of _Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil_.... _Midnight In The Garden..._ is set in Savannah.... Hmmmmmmm. Yeah... that's the kind of stuff that rattles around in my head for weeks afterward. Guess maybe I should check out airfares to Savannah. > Did I miss this, or has someone posted what is on the rest of the > Midnight In The Garden Soundtrack? Could someone in the know do > this for me? I'd like to know before I consider purchasing this. I don't know exactly what songs are covered by all the performers, but, in addition to Paula, the following artists appear on the CD: kd lang, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, Cassandra Wilson, Kevin Spacey (he does "That Old Black Magic"), Clint Eastwood (he does "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive"), Allison Eastwood (yeah.. Clint's daughter - she acts in the film, too), Allison Krauss, Kevin Mahogany, Joshua Redman and Tony Bennett. Hope this helps at least a little bit, Judy. > Just bought Beth Orton-Trailer Park-so far, so good :) Your care package hits the mail Monday, Judy. I just finished dubbing the tapes last night. You'll *really* like the one of Paula at the Troubadour!! The World Cafe appearance is pretty cool, too. The only problem with that one is that I cut off one of the songs Paula had chosen to play (the all-female Polish choir) halfway through the song. Doesn't affect her part of the show, though. Peace. For that alone it is worth the steep cover price of $4.95, but there are also interviews with dozens of today's women musicians, something this magazine does all too infrequently, making it even more significant that they have chosen to feature all women in this historical issue. Shawnte', What I've done, somewhat successfully, is to plug my portable cassette player in to my 'puter where I would normally plug in the speakers. Thus, it goes THRU the player, letting me record as well. You may need to buy a plug adapter for stereo sound, but they're about $3 at Radio Shack.
