The first time I've heard of Paula was on Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live CD. At this time I discovered her and I wondered if she had produced some solo albums or other projects. Some weeks later I found Harbinger in a record store, listened to it, and immediately bought it. Then, in October 96, I heard of the new album This Fire. Unfortunately Paula was not known in Germany at this time yet! Every time I asked for the new record, I got asked "Paula What? How is it spelled? Oh, we have Harbinger in our list ... This Fire? Never heard of." In January 97, This Fire appeared in the lists, but as a import from UK at about DEM 42 (USD30). And then, Paula was promoted in large scale in spring 97. Big posters in the record stores, special sales ... Within one week, everybody knew about Paula. Radio stations broadcasted her songs. And what is now? Daily I can hear "Where have all the cowboys gone" in radio. But that is the only song Paula wrote, since no other song is played any more. If I ask someone whether he knows about Paula, he responses "Hey, Paula, isn't she that girl with 'Where have all the Cowboys'?" So, I don't know what situation was better: one year before, noone knew about Paulas talent, and today, noone knows about Paulas real talent. This is the price of commerce. I just ran into something fun that I wanted to share. It's fairly old news, but it was new to me. There is a RealAudio broadcast of the Sarah portion of the Starlight Ampitheatre Sarah/Paula/Vega show that is about an hour long at: http://www.lalive.com/shows/sarahmclachlan.html You can download a free copy of RealAudio from the Net. Anyway, Paula sings backups to Sarah's "Elsewhere" at about "37:20" into the show. Killer version and Sarah and Paula sound great together. Definately a great pick me up Paula fix while we are waiting for the "Midnight" soundtrack! (THANKS again for posting that info+ the lyrics. I can't wait!) Sarah also does amazing versions of "Unchained Melody" (VERY different than her recorded version) and "Blue" as well as the Moll Flanders past tense lyrics version of "Full of Grace." This kept me happy all day at work today. Now I just need to figure out a way to record the &%¤ thing onto a .wav file. Enjoy! Well, after reading your post I went there and recorded it into a .Wav file but the darn thing is five megabytes large!!! If anyone is interested in having a copy of the performance, please e-mail privately and tell me whether you prefer .Wav or RealAudio format and I'll put them on one of my sites so you can go get it. The RealAudio file will be MUCH smaller than the .Wav file.
