The CD is great and worth buying, but not for Paula's contribution. Definitely worth having in your Paula collection. > - This Fire - Amended (what's different about this one, and how can I > tell if I got the old or the revised edition?) The amended version of This Fire differs from the original version only in that that ol' bugaboo cuss word, motherfucker, is not present in "Throwing Stones." Instead, Paula just repeats the "I'll call you a liar" line. The rest of the album is exactly the same. You decide if you can live without it or not. Glad you're back, Ruediger. It's nothing new (in the way of music, that is). However, one of the remixes of "Cowboys" appears on _Club Mix 98_, a 24-track 2-CD set of remixed dance music. I haven't listened to the CD yet, but I'm pretty sure it's the Drugstore Cowboy remix (just the basic one). Here's the track list: CD 1: Where Have All The Cowboys Gone? - PAULA COLE Say...If You Feel Alright (95 North Club Mix) - CRYSTAL WATERS Where Do You Go - NO MERCY Dance Hall Days (Flashing Back To Happiness 12") - WANG CHUNG Colour Of Love (Berman 12" Mix) - AMBER Can't Get You Out Of My Mind (Suzy's Freestyle Mix) - LIL' SUZY Da' Dip - FREAK NASTY A Little Bit Of Ecstacy (Radio Edit) - JOCELYN ENRIQUEZ Don't Wanna Be A Player (Radio Edit) - JOE In My Nature - NUTTIN' NYCE Hey You - SMOOTH That Girl - MAXI PRIEST featuring SHAGGY CD 2: Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) (Jazzy Jim's Radio Edit) - BACKSTREET BOYS The Power (Remix featuring Einstein) - SNAP! Land Of The Living (Lisa Marie Experience Radio Edit) - KRISTINE W Make The World Go Round (Deep Dish Edit) - SANDY B. The Child (Inside) - QKUMBA ZOO Dub-I-Dub (Club Remix) - ME & MY Only Words (Radio Version) - DEBORAH GIBSON Don't Speak ("LAs" Speechless Radio Mix) - CLUELESS I Believe I Can Fly (Radio Edit) - R. KELLY I'm Not Feeling You (Main Version) - YVETTE MICHELE Just Be Good To Me - DEBORAH COX Falling In Love (Full Harmony Club Mix) - LaBOUCHE I have to admit, I have no idea who a few of these groups are and there are definitely a few on there that I detest (i.e., Debbie Gibson and Jocelyn Enriquez). However, most of the music is definitely listenable (and probably danceable), IMO. Seeing this track list makes me realize that it's time I make a confession. One of the groups on this CD set has developed into a full-blown guilty pleasure for me. I'm loathe to admit it, fellow subscribers. In fact, some of you, like Spanish and Jason, might not ever speak to me again. Oh, man..... OK....So, here it is..... I really like the Backstreet Boys. I mean, I truly don't like their slow love songs - the ones that evoke squeals from pubescent girls (and some teenage boys, I suppose). Those are just way too nauseating, even for me. But some of their dance songs, like "Quit Playing Games" and "Backstreet's Back," are so appealing to me that I can't seem to help myself from liking the Boys. And, it's not like I haven't tried to dislike them. I have. Really. I've tried to tell myself that The Backstreet Boys are nothing more than an all-boy version of The Spice Girls. And, I guess they are, really. But, to no avail. The other day, I actually almost bought their album. The only thing that stopped me was that the two songs I really wanted aren't on their new CD. The last time this happened was when No Mercy came out with "Where Do You Go." Thankfully, I never liked any of their other songs and was saved from any possible embarassment about being a No Mercy fan. Now, it just seems like every time I turn on MuchMusic, they're playing a new Backstreet Boys video and, as hard as I try to make myself hate them, I end up with the song going through my head for the rest of the day. HELP!! Is there some kind of 12-step program that addresses this?? I'm starting to scare myself. Holding on to hope that I'll be OK because, after all, I only know one of the Backstreet Boys' names..... Peace. I'm glad to hear you dance. The assumption was that you didn't know how broad hip-hop is across the music spectrum...that it does spill out into alternative---since you don't agree that it is indeed alternative in and of itself. speaking of "refreshing", if only you were O P E N you might find many hip-hop songs refreshing...especially the number of them that speak about PEACE. I'm not writing this to insult you, just to point out that what you know (and what you think you know) CAN hurt you...and others when you make an uneducated(not being schooled in hip-hop or rap), uninformed blanket statement. If you were open to listen to 1-2 songs in this art form, we probably wouldn't be having this "conversation." I'm not forcing anyone like h-h/r,some of my friends don't care for it, but they do at least try to listen to a song first, b-4 making their opinion known. Everyone has there own tastes..but they are usually formed by at least listening to a particular artist and then saying I've given it a shot, and i don't like it...it's kind of like when you are invited over for dinner, and a particular dish is being served and the only way you know you can't have it or don't like it is if you've tried it first...that is if you DON'T just make a pre-judgement about how it looks first and DECIDE that, "NO! I don't like that." When in actuality you think you don't like it...based on the presentation...thanks for listening...if you haven't already signed off...Ps its interesting how you focused on how much $$$ rap & hip-hop has made instead of how there is an outlet for artists that are "diferent from the usual or the conventional."
