So, this afternoon, I*ve been poking around through my numerous books on = the subject of astrology. Truthfully, I was reading through the books for = my own purposes, but Paula and I share the same sun sign, so what I read = applies to her, too. And... since I found what I read relatively = interesting, I thought I*d share it with you and kill an hour or so of my = day here at work in hopes that my time at the office will go by faster. = ;=5E) It turns out that, right now, Paula truly is a Saturn girl and will = continue to be, astrologically speaking, until the beginning of next June. Paula*s birthday is April 5th, which means her Sun sign is Aries. A few = days after her birthday last year, Saturn moved from Aquarius into Aries. = The last time Saturn was in Aries was nearly 29 years ago, or right around = the time Paula was born. That means that Paula is just about halfway = through her first major Saturn return - an event that takes place in each = of our lives every 28 to 30 years. This return of Saturn to the same position in the zodiac it occupied when = one was born is fairly significant. Saturn*s return heralds that period = of time, just before we turn 30, when we start to take stock of the = structure of our lives and whether or not we*re heading in the right = direction. The introspection that takes place around the time of one*s Saturn return = makes sense since Saturn is the planet of some pretty heavy-duty time and = self-discipline issues. Saturn is the planet of thoughtful concentration, = permanence, tangible rewards, tenacity, ambition and productivity. This = planet also rules caution, delay, limitations, responsibility, rules and = regulations, pain, fear, learning the hard way, authority, control and = denial. On the surface, none of this really seems like the most uplifting = stuff, eh? But, in actuality, Saturn, the Great Taskmaster, is doing us a lot of good = when it comes through. Without it, we would see little or no progress in = our lives or the world around us because we would have no discipline, no = standards, no controls, no final tangible evidence of hard work. All = would be chaos. However, as those of us who have suffered through = Saturn*s presence in our charts (especially when it=27s retrograde), the = planet doesn*t let us get away with much of anything. There are no = shortcuts. Saturn is a great proponent of learning through pain. Slow, = sometimes insufferable pain. Saturn teaches us to slow down and learn = patience. When Saturn is in Aries, we who have our Sun signs in Aries (and even = those who find Aries in other parts of their natal charts, although to a = lesser degree), become more resolute, ambitious, industrious and indomitabl= e. There is a stronger sense of duty and self-reliance. Potentially, one = can become strong-willed, contentious and headstrong. Usually, there is = an ambition to lead, or choose one*s own path. What goads us into this focused action? Time. At the time of our Saturn = return, we really start to take a look a how time is slipping away from us = and how much we have managed to get done in that time. In mythology, = Saturn was the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Kronos, or, as some of us = know him, Father Time. Honestly, I don=27t know if Paula is going through all of this stuff = right now or not, but I=27d guess that she=27s not that different from the = rest of us who are staring down the barrel of 30. :=5E) In any event, Saturn will leave Paula*s Sun sign next June, just two = months after her 30th birthday. At that time, Uranus will move into = Aries. I don*t expect that Paula will have gotten too far into the production of = her next album by that time, so the presence of Uranus in her Sun sign = could have some potentially exciting effects on the music that will appear = on her next record and on Paula*s live performances. Uranus is the planet of surprise and all that is unexpected. It rules the = future and all new technology - all that has been invented and all that is = yet to come. Uranus also rules the breaking up of any established = patterns or structures, creating sudden, even radical, changes. Under = this planet*s domain falls innovation, unpredictability, resourcefulness, = experimentation, pure creativity and even genius. Similarly, when Uranus is in Aries, the planet gives self-will, independenc= e, inventiveness, freedom and daring. It increases mental vigor, = originality and can cause sudden breaks and new beginnings. One may = become radical in one*s speech or actions. The last time Uranus was in = Aries was from April 1927 to March 1935. Remember what happened during = that time? It was the end of the Roaring Twenties, the stock market = crashed and the Depression began. Pretty intense events that prompted = people to overhaul the way they viewed their lives and how they approached = everything they did. Personally, I think that, musically and personally, Paula already exhibits = the strident qualities of a vanguard. She is definitely a person who is = open to new possibilities, most obviously so in her music. Be it the = musical instruments she uses (cookies sheets and didgeridoos) or certain = unusual elements or references in the songs she sings (chiaroscuro and the = philosophy behind the Nekyia), Paula is definitely leading the pack. = Because of that, I think it*s exciting to think about what new levels she = is hoping to push herself to next, with regard to her life and her music. = I mean... we*re not talking about experimenting with a new hair color = here. If Uranus has a marked effect on Paula and her music, she might = very well be able to chart out new roads even she never dreamt she*d = explore in her art. That*s pretty cool stuff=21 OK... this has definitely gotten really long. I just wanted to throw this = out there for no particular reason at all. Just something to think about, = I guess. Also, please note that I*m not any kind of master astrologer or = anything. This is just a hobby for me. I fully concede that there are = other aspects of Paula*s natal chart that influence her actions, in = addition to the activity surrounding her Sun sign. Make of this what you will. :=5E) Peace. Kenn, Thanks for the lesson! This really makes sense--the taking stock around this age. Sociologists and psychologists have noted that late 20s/early 30s are when most people go thru an introspective, life changing time in their lives. I doubt they've ever made the astrological connection, but as I said, it makes sense! I know for me, my whole life changed around that time--that's when I took stock, went back to finish my BA, and am now in grad school and on my way to becoming the teacher I've always wanted to be! This also makes sense in light of Paula's album. THIS FIRE is certainly an album of "taking stock" and "making changes," so it's interesting to have this analysis. It would be interesting to see other artists' transformations around this time... I really don't care to hear it while I'm dancing at the Palladium. On a related note, has anyone else seen the video for the remix of Cowboys? Spanish asked if there is another place for Paula's tour dates and other info. The answer is YES!!!! After countless posts I guess it goes unnoticed that I have taken the time to do a Unofficial Paula Cole Web Site. I have a biograpghy there and the tour dates as I find them a guest and review book. So far I have had well over 100 hits to my page and only 5 people have taken the time to sign the guestbook and no one has left a review of a show.I update the page usually on a daily basis depending on what is going on. Being a mom and having the military tell us where to go and what to do all the time I sometimes I am slow. I use the alias of "paulafan" on my website but all in all it is me. I plan to add more to my site in the near future but I am having to move to Texas or Louisiana in a week. As of next Monday everything will be in boxes to be loaded on a truck and I will be living in a hotel until Thursday. I hope you all take advantage of my Paula Page and help me make it the best one out there for Paula fans. I have dedicated the site to fans who can't see Paula live for whatever reason it may be. So the answer is NO you don't hvae to deal just with the WBR site so come on over and visit.
