Hey listers!! I was at Mixfest but I can't say that I met up with anyone from the list. I was hanging around the soundboard during Paula's set, was anyone else?? Glad she added Saturn Girl to her setlist, that would be 2 from Harbinger right?? Really would love to hear her do The Ladder. Kenn I was rereading a post of yours and saw that it is one of your fav Paula songs. Me too, along with Feelin' Love. What similiar taste we have! Anyways, thought she sounded great as usual. She always explores her voice each time I hear her. Would like to add that I have seen Paula 4 times this year!! (I'm not bragging at all, can't you tell!) Dallas on Nov.6 will be 5. I look forward to getting all the reviews from you fellow other city listers. Keep 'em coming!! Thanks for reading! I got my copy of the Fruvous Quill yesterday which announces that Moxy Fruvous will be returning to New York City next month *AND* in December as part of their Your New Boyfriend Tour '97!!! Next month (middle of the month, not sure of the dates), the guys will be doing three or four nights at The Mercury Lounge. Definitely going to see one of those shows. And, then... the guys are scheduled to return to NYC to perform on New Year's Eve at The Bottom Line!! I can't really imagine a show that would be more fun to see on New Year's Eve (ok... Paula at Roseland last year was pretty awesome, but I doubt she'll be doing *that* again...). If nothing better comes along before then, I'll very likely be at that show, too. Still entertaining impure thoughts about Jian.... Peace. I fell in love with Paula's style after seeing the video at a friend's house. She's just...incredible on the SW tape. [snip] > And the smiles she flashes are just as beautiful. I especially love the dancing at the end of In Your Eyes, I think...(I can't remember the song, although I can remember the scene.) [snip] > performance the first time I watched the tape. In addition to being a superior showman, Peter is > one of those rare artists who is capable of reproducing the same sound > live that he does on his recordings. I completely agree. It is very rare that musicians sound the same, or better, than their recordings. I think the Cure, Tori, Sarah, Bruce Springsteen, and Ani Difranco are all fine examples of this. I love shows that use theatrical elements. I wish I could have seen Peter during the SW tour. I agree about the interview segment. They seemed to be straining to relate, but it was nice to see someone approach an interview with a female musician in such a positive, intelligent way. He didn't seem to be speaking down to her, which is refreshing. I dunno - I just feel that sometimes interviewers relate or refer to women musicians in a condescending tone. Oh, I forgot to mention before that it was so nice to see Jay smile while playing. Usually he seems so focused on everything and on his own wavelength. Nice change... :) > anyways, i am so much looking forward to seeing paula post her tour > schedule for the midwest. talk to you all later. I'm definitely looking forward to some Midwest dates, especially Cincinnati. (Can you tell where I'm writing from? ;) I'm hoping that I can get an interview with her. I intern at Everybody's News, a local alternative weekly here, and I'd love the chance to chat with her about the music.
