As usual. She sounded and looked fantastic yesterday. I had been a little concerned because I thought her voice sounded tired on the Charlie Rose show. But she wowed the audience with her energy - her jumping around and dancing and pounding the drum with the big paddle. And she sounded great-she even did Saturn Girl which I hadn't heard her do in a while. After her set it was announced that she would sign autographs. Well, naturally, the line was oh so long. I stood in it for a while, (met Shawnte in line- Hi Shawnte~) maybe a half hour and did not move one inch, so decided to get something to eat. Came back about an hour later and she was still signing. How many other artists would do that? Anyway, I want to give a special thank you to one of our list people, Erica. She stayed in line the whole time and when I finally went back to the line she was among the next batch of people to be qued in to get autographs. She saw my fumbler shirt and figured out who I was (not too hard to figure-what with my age and all :-) and said she would take my shirt and have Paula sign it. Unfortunately, they stopped the signing at that point, I'm sure Paula must have had writers cramp. So thanks, ERica, you're sweet :-) As they were taking Paula away she came withing a couple of feet of me and I said "Paula, sign my shirt please" and she said "Sorry, I really gotta go" Then, like a dummy I said, "But I know all of the words to all of your songs" (duh) and then the strangest thing happened. She took a couple of steps toward me, looked me straight in the eye, grabbed onto my arm, held it and said, so sincerely, "I'm really sorry, but I gotta go" I thought she was sweet and sincere. (She must have thought-who is this old lady-wanting my autograph) So much for telling her Kenn says hi-which was my origingal plan. Anyway, my daughter thought it was wonderful and we did get to watch her from the special Press section, after being allowed in by a fumbler from over at fte-but ya gotta be an fte'er to get that story :-) Go see Paula- I want more! I want a whole Paula show. I think that Paula was in pain towards the end. Her face was tight and Jay looked like he was concerned. I could be wrong, but that is the way it looked. I just hope she is o.k. The DJs were almost acting like they didn't expect the crowd to respond...they were mistaken. Set list: Throwing Stones, Mississippi, Me, Where Have All The Cowboys Gone, Saturn Girl, Road To Dead, I Don't Want To Wait, Hitler's Brothers. I got to jostle for position behind the soundboard to chat with Phil after the show. Get ready for some more changes to the current list, because there are going to be several tv bookings that will interfere with the itinerary. Good news for New England fans...a Toad's Place (New Haven) show looks to be in the works. Repeating my request for a Hitler's Brother's translation... Subject: RE: (harbinger) Mixfest review About Mixfest Lynn wrote: >I think that Paula was in >pain towards the end. Her face was tight I was sitting to left of stage and noted that there was something wrong with a speaker (maybe a mike too) that was on the floor to Paula's right facing her as she played piano. A couple of stage guys were running around trying to fix it during at least the two songs before she got up to do "Hitler's Brothers". She was directing them and speaking to them about it during songs, but you probably couldn't see it from the front- only from stage left where I was. When she got up she kicked the speaker and when she knew she wasn't going to need mike at beg. of HB she threw her mike down. Her dancing was particularly energetic and I felt that she was putting all her frustration and anger into the song & dancing, which is something that she says she does, and what a good example of sublimating. She then never has to take it out on her band/stage mates or beat up on herself. She has learned that things will go wrong, she manages to never miss a beat or let her fans down, and uses the feelings to improve her performance. It seems to me the hardest thing for a performer doing same concert after same concert night after night must be to get up for each one. Paula (unlike some others I have seen) uses the negatives and turns them into positives. I did not stay to see Paula after the concert as I know her and have seen her many times. But if I had i would have told her that we her fans notice and appreciate how professional she is at the same time that she is so real and down-to-earth. Her way of dealing with these things is going to help keep her healthy and is a good lesson for all of us. I used to work for America Online, and would like to remain anonymous for that reason. I was laid off in early September, but I know exactly why I was laid off, which I will now explain: Since last December, I had been one of the many people assigned to design AOL 4.0 for Windows (AOL 4.0 beta, codenamed Casablanca). In the beginning, I was very proud of this task, until I found out the true cost of it. Things were going fine until about mid-February, when me and 2 of my colleagues started to suspect a problem, an unexplainable 'Privacy Invasion', with the new version. One of them, who is a master programmer, copied the finished portion of the new version (Then 'Build 52'), and took it home, and we spent nearly 2 weeks of sleepless nights examining and debugging the program, flipping it inside-out, and here is what we found. Unlike all previous versions of America Online, version 4.0 puts something in your hard drive called a 'cookie'. (AOL members click here for a definition). However, the cookie we found on Version 4.0 was far more treacherous than the simple internet cookie. How would you like somebody looking at your entire hard drive, snooping through any (yes, any) piece of information on your hard drive. It could also read your password and log in information and store it deep in the program code. Well, all previous versions, whether you like it or not, have done this to a certain extent, but only with files you downloaded. As me and my colleagues discovered, with the new version, anytime you are signed on to AOL, any top aol executive, any aol worker, who has been sworn to secrecy regarding this feature, can go into your hard drive and retrieve any piece of information that they so desire. Billing, download records, e-mail, directories, personal documents, programs, financial information, scanned images, etc ... Better start keeping all those pictures on a floppy disk! This is a totally disgusting violation of our rights, and your right to know as well. Since this is undoubtably 'Top Secret' information that I am revealing, my life at AOL is pretty much over. After discovering this information, we started to inform a few other workers at America Online, so that we could get a large enough crew to stop this from happening to the millions of unfortunate and unsuspecting America Online members. This was in early August. One month later, all three of us were unemployed. We got together, and figured there was something we had to do to let the public know. Unemployed, with one of us going through a divorce (me) and another who is about to undergo treatment for Cancer, our combined financial situation is not currently enough to release any sort or article. We attepted to create a web page on three different servers containing in-depth information on AOL 4.0, but all three were taken down within 2 days. We were running very low on time (4.0 is released early this winter), so we figured our last hope to reveal this madness before it effects the people was starting something similar to a chain letter, this letter you are reading. Please do the following, to help us expose AOL for who they really are, and to help us and yourself recieve personal gratification for taking a stand for our freedom: 1. Forward this letter to as many people as you can (not just friends and family, as many as you can!) 2. Tell people who aren't on America Online in person, especially important people (Private Investigators, Government workers, City Council) 3. If the information about the new version isn't exposed by the time aol is released early this winter, for your own protection, DON'T DOWNLOAD AOL 4.0 UNDER ANY CONDITION !!! Thank you for reading and examining this information. Me and my colleagues hope that you will help us do the right thing in this situation. Enjoy America Online (just kidding!).
