Paula Cole called it a bigger living room. I enjoyed it a lot. Especially the 2nd encore ... 'La vie en rose' ... Didn't know she speaks french. i didnt know if paula was bilingual in any way, or does she sing this song in french the way that abba sang songs in english (ya know, not actually speaking the language, but learning the tones and working from there).... still wondering if moving my sofa and entertainment center would allow 100 people in my apartment and thus qualify as a venue for paula's next swing through ohio..... spanish - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Oct 1997 08:11:26 -0400 (EDT) From: Momrox1@aol.com Subject: Re: (harbinger) about the harbinger list and yes about paula :) << "there" : denotes place, as in 'There is a kittycat.' Hi. I will hopefully be seeing Paula on Nov. 22 in Nashville. Though this date is not confirmed, I wait for the day. My question is, how easy would it be to arrange a meeting with Paula. To be able to just see her up close and maybe get a picture would make my year. I have friends that work at a local radio station, but they probably won't be able to get passes. just wondering, Chris not a psycho fan - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Oct 1997 11:17:32 -0400 (EDT) From: ASIS143@aol.com Subject: Re: (harbinger) i agree with u kenn! My understanding of the Internet was that it is a forum for free speech and free expression of opinions. All opinions regardless of how 'loony' they may appear. So why does this list think that it is any different? I'm unlikely to meet any of you (I'm a Londoner) and so I don't feel that I should judge anyone else's mental state. So please can we have some more civilised threads and if you must flame each other, I can only suggest that you do it off-list. The latest issue (Sept/Oct 97) of 'LIVE SOUND! International' has an article on Lilith Fair. The magazine is for live sound types, and is a very in-depth magazine which I read religiously (being an aspiring live-sound guy, who does it for fun now and hopes to do it for a living sometime. I'm one of those people who, at a concert, just stand there, don't clap, and see if they can pick out the snare. Bugs my wife to no end...). Anyways, the article in Lilith fair is an overview on the sound setup for all of Lilith Fair - who was behind the FOH console and monitor console, what board/processing used, mic's used, etc. They also talk about the various acts and how they sounded (this article was written at the Kansas City show, btw). At one point in the article, Sarah McLachlan's tour manager is gushing on how a specific mic does an incredible job on her voice. Then, here's the next paragraph: "Where vocal management is concerned, special kudos were earned by Phil Sullivan's (Paula Cole's Engineer) use of dynamic control. Sullivan's insert of his personal Summitt TLA 100A leveling amplifier resulted in a surgically precise placement of Ms. Cole's voice and allowed her huge dynamic range to steal the show". Next to it is a small picture of Phil doing a very good "leave me alone, I'm trying to reset the EQ settings after the last bozo messed them up" face as he ignores the camera. :) Anyways, I thought it was interesting that everyone is finding out what anyone who's seen Paula live already knows - Phil is an incredible sound man. Anyone who's worked with any technology knows that it's not equipment that makes something good - it's the person behind it. I know when I saw Lilith (July 18th at Detroit - I'm the guy who talked to you about the drumsticks after Paula' set, Phil), that was true. Paula's set was the best sonically - the right sound level, no distortion even as Paula explored new boundaries of sound with her voice, hearing all the instruments clearly, balance, etc. I'm just glad that he's getting some recognition in the live sound community. Now, if they'll just schedule some dates in the midwest, I'll get to hear Phil work again :). Rich Herdman rherdman@bigfoot.com ps - The magazine has a web page (http://www.livesoundint.com), but the article isn't online.
