Same with Ani Difranco. Not only this, but they asked a lot of artists to do the tour who were unable to do so because they had just come off a long tour, or they were just starting work on a new album, or a great many things. *However*, according to quite a few radio "articles" I've heard lately, not only will almost all of this year's line-up be back, but three who have said they will be there next year but couldn't make it this year are Tori, Alanis Morissette, and Garbage. So any way, why you dislike Sarah, I can't imagine. And seeing as that you don't even bother to articulate *why* in your post, I see no need to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person. - -Casey - -+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+- casey@tisd.net http://www.tisd.net/~casey/ "If I shed a tear, I won't cage it ... if I feel a rage I won't deny it ... Personally, I thought that one of the most striking things about the ride home from Lilith (for me, anyway), was the diversity in musical and performance styles that were presented. Come on, Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Cardigans on the same tour? To anyone who attended Lilith, I think this concert could not help put promote the individuality of the artists. I could perhaps see how someone who did not attend Lilith might think otherwise, but I don't see how someone who was there could feel that the artists there were not each unique in some way, and that each had something to add to the event. > i'm tired of defending tori. i'm tired, period-there's probably many > errors > in this post. frankly, i don't care right now. she's an interpretive > experience, like all great art. i'm sorry if you feel she's too > "different". > i'm sorry if you hate her. in my opinion, nothing will ever come close > to > matching the brilliance that is The Trilogy [listen to Little > Earthquakes, > under The Pink, and Boys For Pele in one shot, and you'll know what i > mean]....i'm sorry sarah, in my opinion, slipped......i'm sorry there > is a > trend now to have things spelled out. i've said it before, i'll say it > > again-tori creates environments, not songs...and not to mention > RAINN.......but.....that's it on tori. if you wish to feel me closed > minded > for not thrashing her for "tuna rubber..." A valid point. Personally, I don't like Tori. However, she has found a style that is uniquely hers and stays true to it. She has her influences, sure, but she doesn't try to copy and doesn't sell out. No one can accuse her of being an "Alannis wannabe" or of going commercial. So, while I don't like her music personally, I have a lot of respect for her as an artist and fromt he work that she does. (Yes, you can respect music that you don't personally like). I've been reading all these comments comparing Sarah M with Tori and i think once again people are comparing two female artists on the basis of who is better and at the same time downgrading each one of them. They are both two unique artists in their own right. The competition that is being created between them is unfair to both of them. Tori and Sarah have been friends for a while now. To say that Tori point blankly said no to the Lilith tour is wrong, she was at the time recording stuff for the Great Expectations soundtrack, writing her new album, and having a break before she records again and then undertakes another massive world tour. Sarah did a wonderful job in orchastrating the Lilith tour and her album is beautiful, however there is the problem that the tracks on it do not stand out but as an album its a great listen. As for the comment about Marianne i heard it was about the death of a childhood friend and the way the women and men in that town tried to cover it up and make it look 'clean' by saying it was an accident, but Tori didn't agree with them. Whatever your impression of each artist be happy for them that as women in a male dominated industry they have achieved the success they have without completely losing their own identity or sacrificing their unique style of music. Most people like them both. Tori's great...no one else has been able to combine Kate Bush, Robert Plant and Hugo Wolf. Their shticks are different enough that there really isn't much to compare. Some of her fans, on the other hand, leave me wondering when the mothership is going to come back to pick them up. Jason ps. Considering the closeness between Sarah and Paula, and the amount of support Sarah's offered Paula career, this isn't the best place in the world for anti-Sarah paranoia. Some of us aren't that happy about Surfacing, but the best way to put it is that Surfacing is the most disappointing cd since Boys for Pele. ;) - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ End of harbinger-digest V2 #76 ******************************
