[Sven Luetkemeier Subject: (harbinger) Paula and Sarah in German newspaper - European leg of Lilith fair? Hi, the Frankfurter Rundschau (one of the largest newspapers in Germany) has today two articles about Sarah McLahlan and Paula. Allthough nothing too special - the one about Sarah talks about her 4 records and Lilith Fair, while the one about Paula focus on her concert in Frankfurt on Thursday - it was a nice surprise to see that Sarah's and Paula's popularity seems to increase here in Germany as well :-) Ah, I nearly forgot to ask: the article mentions that Sarah intends to tour in Europe in 1998. But it is unclear whether this means a solo tour or Lilith Fair. Does anyone know more about it? It was from an interview someone posted on the FTE list, and I can't remember what the source was; sorry! Specifically she mentioned Australia and Europe and that she wanted to do it. So I guess we all just have to wait and see. I didn't want to snip your interp, 'cause I think you explained yourself well. I guess I have a different take on the song. I think it's about abuse and not necesarily rape. I'd say most date rapists do not come back and ask for forgiveness. To me, the end, where the girl gives in to him at the end does not indicate that she is angry - she just denies that he beats her and continues the cycle of abuse. The song indicates that they have some sort of relationship. The line "he can't control it and he cannot tell her why / feel the beaded knuckles feel the snap inside" sort of makes me think of the blind rage one goes into before hitting someone else. "He tried painfully, he begged for her forgiveness on his knees" tells me that he was sorry when he realized what he had done. But she continues to let him abuse her and goes into denial with "she gave gracefully" - she gave her forgiveness gracefully - "she gave gracefully, but inside, but inside, she still bleeds". She still hurts even though she pretends it isn't happening. I love this song, too, and it's got quite a message. I think maybe Paula was trying to show both sides of it. I mean, if you are being abused and don't get out of the situation, do you begin to comply with it? Are you an accomplice to your own eventual demise? It's definitely a powerful song. - -Karen * * * * * karenjw@one.net * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * we gotta start feeding our souls - jewel / i yearn for more * * than just your mind - holly / i am a work in progress - ani * * don't wanna be a boy today - tori / fuck and run - liz * * * * * * http://w3.one.net/~karenjw/welcome.html * * * * * * * - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Sep 1997 23:06:49 -0400 (EDT) From: "Karen, Goddess of the Groove" Subject: Re: (harbinger) Paula, Tori, Boots On Sat, 20 Sep 1997, Karen, Goddess of the Groove wrote: > Just wanted to through my 2 cents in here.
