[Jason Subject: (harbinger) Paula (Vancouver Show) Hi Guys, This is my first time posting to the mailing list... I am a huge tori amos fan (I have my own website and everything) and I've recently discovered Paula Cole. I think she is amazing! I saw her at lilith fair here in vancouver on Aug 24th/97. This was her set (in order): Throwing Stones Mississippi ME Where have all the cowboys gone Jolene=20 Tiger I don=92t want to wait Hitlers Brothers It was the best live performance I've ever seen (besides tori of course!) and I was just blown away! Jolene was unreal - all sorts of screaming and yelling, and Throwing Stones was a great opener. Mississippi (my favorite!) was very powerfull... I was right up front for the whole show, and she was definatly the best performer at lilith. Her live performance in one word: Powerfull... also very very very captivating... I was just in awe! So this is the thing: she is coming to vancouver on Oct 22nd... I have 4th row tickets (I'll send in a big review after the show) and I just can't wait to hear a full length concert!=20 I was wondering if you guys know how I can meet her before or after the show. At tori concerts if you go wait by the stage door, tori comes and signs autographs and stuff... I also asked tori to play SISTER JANET for me when I saw her, and she DID! FOR THE LAST SONG! It was so awesome. I really want to ask paula to play Nietchzes Eyes, cause I love that song, and I hear that she doesn't play it much! Does anyone know how I can meet her before the show??? I know that is my > soapbox...Sorry, I just don't want to step down.) Now why the hell would she release versions she thought were so far away from what she wanted that she canned the producer, put the cd months behind schedule, and cost a bundle to redo, at a time when she was moving to a new label to distribute This Fire? Kind of an interesting idea: "Hi, I thought these were such shit that I took over production myself, now buy them." At the beginning of the song, she tells of talking to him on the phone for no reason...which makes me think of dating. Later, she talks of the rush of terror. "He begs for her forgiveness on his knees"...he's acknowledging that he was wrong, but he's sure to do it again as it has happened so many times before. The girl (Paula) is apparently ashamed because she lies to her mother about being out with the "boys". At the end, when her face is in her mother's arms, it's come to the point where she stops lying about what's going on. She says that she forgives him, but inside she still bleeds. Unquestionably the pain will still be there, but my question is...does she go back to him and let it continue to happen, or does she give him forgiveness to be at peace with herself and the pain and then walk off. I don't normally respond to the postings I read on this list, but I just had to offer an opinion on this one because "She Can't Feel Anything Anymore" is my favorite song by Paula. I remember the first time I heard Harbinger and this is the song that made me fall in love with her music...that someone could put such a horrible experience into such an eloquent song amazes me. Finally, in response to your question of "has she ever performed these in concert? Yes. At the taping of "Sessions", she performed "Nietzche's Eyes." She doesn't do these in concert because they are too personal and until now she has just performed in small clubs which are very loud and full of people who aren't really paying attention. I've seen her about 12 times now and asked for "She Can't Feel Anything Anymore", but it's just too personal to perform with a crowd of beer drinking bar people. However, if I'm not mistaken, Paula did perform "Nietzche's Eyes" last summer at one of the first Lilith Fairs in Burbank, CA. thanks for reading:) jenifer - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ End of harbinger-digest V2 #73 ******************************
