I was cracking up when Paula was mentioned during the awards show last night. For those of you who didn't catch the show, Blackstreet came out to present the award for Best Female Video. They started into an a capella version of their song "No Diggity", sticking the names of the nominees before the line "I gotta bag you up." They went through the list of the nominees.... "Toni Braxton, I gotta bag you up..... Erykah, I gotta bag you up..... Meredith, I gotta bag you up.... Jewel, I gotta bag you up...." And then they got to Paula's name. She was the last on the list, so the guy who got her name really tore into his "Paula Cole, I gotta bag you up". It was all soulful and sexy and everything. She certainly got special treatment from the Blackstreet guys, even if it was only because she happened to fall last on their list. :-) And, since no one else has mentioned it... she didn't win the award. Jewel did. I'm glad for it, too. Don't get me wrong.... I think it's very cool that Paula was nominated in the first place. However, when the winners of those big categories are new to the whole music scene, very often huge (perhaps unrealistic) expectations are placed on them to produce a mega-hit with their next album. Like Paula needs that kind of pressure. :) Peace.
