Her eyes looked so tired. She was so cute at the end, when she got up from the bench and was hopping up and down. I loved the dress. I think that's the most formal I've ever seen Paula. She's so beautiful. :) I thought the performance was good, but she did seem very tired. Maybe that had something to do with the more subdued version of IDWTW. BTW - did anyone catch Fiona Apple's performance on Letterman tonight (9/4)? Was it just me, or does Fiona FINALLY look like she's put on a few pounds? She looked healthier. Her performance was ok. She was doing that annoying-as-hell vibrato thing with her voice and she seemed to be going completely nutso during the song, but she was none-the-less lovely as ever. ;) - -Karen - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Sep 1997 12:02:52 +0300 From: sstewart@NTCGEN01HE.ntc.nokia.com (Stewart Steven NTC/INP-He) Subject: (harbinger) Letterman Performance Review? How was Paula's performance on Letterman? I just found out that Paula is coming to Sweden this month...I am almost tempted to take the 12 hour boat ride (one way) to see her live again, but since it is on Sunday, I wouldn't be able to get back to work in Finland until Monday eve, Tuesday. Luckily, I got to see her three times last year when I was in America...but if there is anyone from Europe on this list and you haven't seen her live DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SEE HER!!! She is a phenomenon and you won't be able to listen to her albums the same way again. She is truly an amazing performer and you will not be disappointed. Did they ever release IDWTW as a CD single in America? I haven't seen anything about it. I'm surprised that the WB "official" site doesn't seem to have been updated since a month after the album came out. Seems like they would have added the IDWTW clip. Also, B. Titus' page has been such an amazing resource for me, I am sad that the page doesn't seem to have been updated for a while. No chart news on IDWTW, gossip, article references, etc. I know he mentioned that it wasn't as fun now that she is gaining popularity...but I am still SO grateful for all of the information he generously provided in the past that I would hate for that resource to be cut off. Last ramble...I was pissed to read comments on VH1s sounding board about Paula. Every comment was about pit hair and how a lot of them liked cowboys and drinking beer. Yeah. Oh, well. I can't get too mad at them. At least the album is selling well, which will hopefully ensure the long long long life of Paula's career. I have had too many favorite "unknown" artists that no longer make albums because of poor sales or other problems. As much fun as having the "secret" of Paula Cole has been, I am even happier that she is (hopefully) finally making some money after all of these years of sweating blood. I just hope she jumps back in to make her third record as soon as she is able (and starts releasing more B-sides, soundtrack cuts, demo versions, and live tracks. And I know this is a prayer in vain, but I hope that Paula would allow her discarded versions of her THIS FIRE cuts to somehow surface...even if they didn't fit her vision for what she wanted to do, I think she as a musician can appreciate showing her hardcore fans both the road not taken as well as the final product.) How could I know it's in German when I wasn't able to hear it?!? Can perhaps somebody send me the sound file; I'd translate it back to English and post it on the list... I've been subscribed for some weeks but never posted. I am a music-journalist/photographer from Holland. The first time I heard about Paula was when I saw the video 'Duets' with Melissa Etheridge. Later I saw her performance with Peter Gabriel and recently bought her album This Fire. I loove the song 'Where Have All The Cowboys Gone" which was never a hit at all over here. In fact Paula is not known at all (yet!). Next week she's going to perform at a singer/songwriter festival called 'Crossing Border Festival' over here with other artists like Katel Keineg and Lisa Germano (and more). I am really excited to be able to finally see Paula live!!! Love to you all, Anneke P.S. Could anyone get me the People Magazine???(I would pay for it or trade) as I cannot find it in Holland - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Sep 97 02:04:52 UT From: "Kristine Boeke" Subject: (harbinger) RE: Hitler's Brothers Ruediger wrote: Lyrics are one of the most important things for me, almost even more important than the music itself, and I must say that Paula is an excellent lyricist!! The only song I wish she wouldn't have written is "Hitler's Brothers". At the risk of raising an incredibly controversial issue on this list, I was wondering why you wished Paula had not written Hitler's Brothers? It's not personally one of my favorites, but as a graduate student studying the Holocaust, I think her political message is extremely important. What about the song is it that you don't like? By the way, welcome to the list!
